Teen shot in face in case of mistaken identity left paralyzed

A Texas college student who was gunned down in a suspected case of mistaken identity was left paralyzed, according to her family.

Jamie Richards-Hogland, 19, was allegedly shot in the face by 26-year-old Shawn Patrick Layton when she opened the door at her Stephenville apartment on Dec. 10, the Dallas News reported.

Richards-Hogland’s parents said Tuesday that the shooting severed her spine and left her quadriplegic.

They said she has “endured a tremendous amount of pain, frustration and anxiety” since the incident, according to the Dallas News.
