A Viewer Writes: Teens

I have a concern for Wicomico county. I see teens roaming the streets, from age maybe 13 to 16 are the ones I am concerned for. I would think police would pick them up and call their parents. There is so much going on out there, it scares me to death. That being said I know police have a lot to deal with, I was wondering what others think about this.

If there were curfews especially in Salisbury then police could pick them up for loitering after hours, there would be less crime in the city, and safer for the teens and communities. But they have never done this and I think they are scared of the parents complaining, the vast majority I believe from living here don't care where their children are and don't have a clue at any given time--parents want to be friends not parents.

The Salisbury cops have NOTHING to deal with because there to busy making pizza.

I agree and that is a great idea in THEORY but it is not practical here. SPD doesn't have the resources or officers to do that. I don't even think the community "sub-stations" are open that often either.

Why call parents. Those that let their teenagers wander the streets don't care.
And it isn't against the law to walk the streets.

It's the 13 to 16 year old teens you need to watch out for they attack and assault people every night... We need a curfew.

HAHAHA, pick them up. They want nothing to do with them. I have personally seen the kids smack the side of a patrol car and the SPD keep right on going.

Kids are the reason I am selling my house and getting the heck out of the city, this current crop is the worst ever! I have owned a home in the city for 15 years and enough is enough, the officers have their hands tied behind their backs and can't do anything. They steal from you then are let out the next day, they break your window and then are let out the next day, all the while laughing.

The parents could care less, but will fight you if you try and tell them how to handle THEIR kids. Sooo sick of it all. Going to hell in a handbasket is an understatement for this city.

Property values are plummeting in the city, don't believe me look at all the nicer homes people have fixed up that are not getting sold. The only ones selling are people that have dropped the price to just get the heck out or the ones that are selling for under $50k for flippers and rentals.

I don't like Major Day or Chief Duncan, but both have inherited this mess so I can't entirely blame them, but they are certainly not helping the situation. Free food a couple times a year at Doverdale isn't going to stop the shootings and the kids looting nonstop.

This was Obama's plan to rid every nice places of white people but We white people will be coming out soon enough.

Anonymous said...

Try teaching them. Lol! Poor teachers have to deal with this.

Inherited a mess from past democrats.

Wow, someone thinks Obama did this. That is truly sad and to say whites will be coming soon enough is even worse. Provide a solution rather than blame a President that only was a figure head.

CONGRESS does everything to this country and your lack of knowledge on this matter and blaming race is astonishing! Enjoy the rest of your life in Salisbury!

And until the last election, the dems had control of congress. Your lack of knowledge is also astounding.

when I was a kid living in a small town on the shore there was nothing to do but walk around the streets. No jobs except working on a farm. No cars unless an older buddy had one and let you ride around with him. Go to small town to small town drinking beer and smoking pot. Looking for girls but wouldn't know what to do with them if you found one.

But we didn't usually attack anyone or rob them. Except for the occasional mailbox or watermelon patch, we didn't bother anyone except those trying to sleep when we made too much noise on a street corner or parking lot.

Things have changed for the worse

Asking the government to manage children got us here. Your concern can be put to effort.
Only the involvement of our community can correct this problem.

It's not Wicomico County, it's the City of Salisbury's problem.

2:39, wake up from the deep sleep you've been in since the fat candidate lost last year. You're president did cause this destruction and that is why the fat lady got stomped by the POTUS. It started in 2008, if you hadn't noticed. You are correct in saying he was a figure head, he sure was in his own mind.

Must be a city thing.Kids in Wicomico County wait for school buses in thier parents car and are picked up upon return. They go back home and that's the last you them.No playing outside, riding bikes etc.If you didn't know better you'd think there aren't any kids.

352 actually it’s both. Salisbury is IN Wicomico County. Both can deal with the issue. Truency officers are county officials because BOE is Wicomico’s. There is NO Slaibury BOE. It would help a great deal if people knew how government worked and what municipalities encompass. Think that might be one of the reasons your elected officials are pinheads?

The one on Church Street doesn't seem to be open in the evenings. What's the point of being there?

Beat the kids all of them. Take away their phones tell them to go to the library or get a hobby. Cut the grass take out the trash be seen and not heard and count their blessings. Go kneel on beans in the basement and read your bible. YOU ARE NOT GOING OUT. You are not a Kardashian and I don't care how many Facebook friends you have Twitters and the like you are a child buck it and shut it up except your unexceptional fate and don't come in off the streets with tats and some half breed baby cause guess what your grandma is tired.

This can't be true people!! I just saw Day and his buddy posing for selfies a couple months ago for the best children's initiative program in the state. What the hell does the rest if the state look like if Salisbury and its youth are st the top. Its all about bogus self promotion and meaningless awards for these clowns no true participation just pictures. Days buddy actually takes credit for the SU academic building being built because he helped get grant funding. Had nothing to do with the guerrieu family leaving millions in trusts for Salisbury's community. And the real douche bag is the one only bill cropper taking credit for putting this team together forming the church dream team

Salisbury is quickly going in the toilet. Day is single handedly creating a unsafe community with his senseless agendas. His reallocation of budget funds to senseless entertainment will continue to plague Salisbury. The good old coach will always find a way to seek out the spotlight and try to feed his ego and pride. How quickly he was forced to refocus his energy from being some kind of baseball guru to presenting to be an actual religious leader.

It's not the responsibility of the police to be surrogate parents.

Pick them up and call their parents HA,HA! I worked as a transportation officer for juvenile services. I was paid to take the children picked up by cops, back to their homes because most parents will not bother to come and get them. They tell the cops, you detained them, go ahead and keep them, we're busy.

I teach at a city school. The thug culture is taking over and our administration in inept. They ignore the bad behavior and refuse to back up teachers. As to the parents, the kid that was shot was home on suspension. Mom did nothing to help him. Roaming the streets while on suspension from school. Pathetic.

I see kids wandering the streets after dark all the time. Their parents could care less. They think their kids have a right to do whatever they want. Truth is they are kicked out of the house so mamma can watch tv and drink or do her drugs. or be with her man. Kids are nothing more than a paycheck to some people. Oh and I believe we DO need a curfew. That way the police can stop these young punks and take their firearm that the majority of them have.
