Pets abandoned, chained on leashes, as owners flee Hurricane Irma (video)

As the dangerous storm, Hurricane Irma, approaches Florida, many residents are fleeing to safer areas, but some are leaving their pets behind.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control director Diane Sauve has reported the unimaginable: many pets are being left chained to trees and parked cars, as their owners have left them behind to “ride out the storm” on their own.

“They are left in a yard, in a pen they cannot escape from or tethered to trees or poles,” Sauve said in an interview with WPTV5.

So far, 49 dogs and two cats have been rescued by animal control officers.

Sick. These people should be the ones chained up in a flood. We need to start holding people accountable for this type of ignorance (jail time)

Agree strongly with 10:50. Those dregs should be chained to a post.

Thank God and all first responders I don't know how anyone can walk away from a chained or penned pet they just don't have a heart. There are some thoughtless people in our world I don't know how they can look in a mirror. Thank you for all you do each and every day.
