Two years after the original ordinance was passed and largely ignored, numerous Ocean City business owners now have until September to post signs on their properties reminding members of the public that disorderly conduct is illegal.
It is one part of the Police Commission’s plan to crack down on bad behavior during car events.
“This is not a penalty for the businesses. It’ll allow us to work to keep the peace and allow us to have better control during the events,” Mayor Rick Meehan said during Monday’s meeting. “We passed this ordinance, and people forget very quickly until the impact of the events is felt again.”
It was September 2015 that the City Council passed an ordinance that requires all “public places” with parking fronting Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue, or Coastal Highway, to have signs that say disturbing the peace is against state law.

Coming soon...City mandated signs stating that breaking the law is illegal.
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Sign,sign, everywhere a sign...
From now on it's the Outer Banks for me.
useful to those who can read.
Problem solved 😜
Ever since no smoking signs went up they never get another dime from me..
Needs to be in Russian and Spanish too.
Remember, law enforcement, that disturbing the peace has to result one or more person's peace being disturbed, and if it's only one person, that person isn't you.
So you can get arrested if you have a loud hot rod? Wow.
Is this a new policy?
good hopefully those that disturb the peace will, 1, be able to read the sign, 2, read the sign, 3, obey the sign.
OMG.... It is not written in SPANISH...
I live IN Ocean City and go visit other friends south during the majority of summertime. There are no issues like what we have in:
- Ocean Isle, NC
- Emerald Isle, NC
- Surf City, NC
- Hatteras, NC
- Kitty Hawk, NC
- Duck, NC
- Corolla, NC
- Nags Head, NC
- Wrightsville Beach, NC
- Sunset Beach, NC
- Topsail Beach, NC
- Carolina Beach, NC
- Surfside Beach, SC
- Murrells Inlet, SC
- Pawleys Island, SC
I don't touch Myrtle Beach at all since its very commercialized and a year round resort. If all the others are able to handle people, why can't Ocean City?
Time for a new and younger philosophy in City Hall!
Can these be placed at JMB, WiHi, and Parkside? It might remind administrators...

There's your sign!!
Dear God!! Does this mean they are also going to have to post notices in the bathroom reminding people to wipe? This BS has gone BEYOND ridiculous.
