'Beyond heartless': Video shows teens heckling, laughing at drowning man

COCOA, Fla. —Calling it “beyond heartless,” police are denouncing a video that shows a man drowning and crying out in distress, while five teens watch and laugh.

Jamel Dunn, 31, of Cocoa, drowned in a retention pond in Cocoa on July 9, police said. His body was not discovered until July 12.

Shortly after the discovery, a video surfaced on social media that shows Dunn in the water while teenagers nearby mock and curse him, police said. Dunn cries out, and a burst of laughter ensues from the teens, one of whom recorded the video on a phone, police said.

“They had phones but didn’t even call for help,” Cocoa Police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said. “Anyone who could just watch a man die like that is beyond heartless,” she said.

1. Saving some one from drowning is not like helping some one change a tire. There are very real dangers involved. And even if trained some could drown you with them.
2. How in the world did he get that far out?
3. Kids were being smart a$$ punks. Its still not a crime.

He was also a disabled man, and saying the statement " Was it obamas son" is the most arrogant comment due to someone died.

there is some truth to that about helping a drowning person. sometimes they will take you down with them.

They have him on video climbing a fence and walking into the water intentionally.

There currently is no law against not helping him, however, they looked long and hard at their laws and charged the teens with failing to notify authorities of a death. It will probably be a test case. The law is more aimed at medical examiners or something like that. They are also talking about making it a crime to not help, at least call 911.

And this is the sad state that our society has become, and I expect it to get much worse in the future. I pity my grandkids.

Until that is your loved one!!

Can't wait till one of yours is assaulted and murdered by one of these thugs.

Hopefully you will get to see what it's like to drown in front of thugs while they are heckling, cursing and laughing at you. You only deserve the best, wink, wink.

This is the generation coming up now.
You think they will become doctors, nurses, teachers, cops, or accountants?
You better be buying guns and ammo and carrying some with you.
And they reproduce at alarming rates.
Entropy.

If you ain't ready, you'll be the next victim. And they are ALWAYS looking for the next victim.

I was actually told by one of these rats that it wasn't their fault they stole it -- it was the victims fault for leaving the stolen item out in the open!!
And did I mention they reproduce at alarming rates (and don't think for a minute that they are raising the next generation of philanthropists.
Carry a gun and use it. I'll let you go at your jury trial.
Keep cheering!

Its not the fact that they didn't risk their lives, it's the fact that they did not call for help. They are smart azz punks and the inhumane part is that they showed no compassion, concern or empathy.

That's why I'm not worried about the national debt. It will never be paid. Look at our future population of thugs and Muslims.

Some states have good samariton laws, if you are able to help someone in distress you must help. For example: if a anyone of those teenagers had ever been a life guard they would have been legally bound to help.

God help us all!!!

They didn't call for help, and they were not required by law, in that state, to do so. What they failed to do, that WAS required by law, was to report the death that they had knowledge of. For that, they will be charged.

The victim was drowning far from shore, and there are always reports of people drowning while attempting to save someone else. If one is not trained in lifesaving a drowning person (like I am), it is not worth the risk. But their causal comments about the victim while he was losing his life were morally inexcusable, even if they were not unlawful.

For all we know these punks couldn't swim. It still does not justify them not trying to help at all. They could have called someone instead of watching and laughing. I hope they do sit in prison for a while.
