US 13 SOUTH RAMP TO SALISBURY BYPASS WILL TEMPORARILY CLOSE

Three-Month Closure Needed for Motorist and Worker Safety during Bridge Repairs

Beginning this weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close the US 13 south (Salisbury Boulevard) ramp to US 13 south/US 50 east (Salisbury Bypass). The approximately three-month closure is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and motorists during repairs to the ramp bridge over US 13 Business.

Crews will post detour signs to direct drivers to take the US 13 south ramp to US 50/Salisbury Bypass west, exit at Naylor Mill Road, turn left then left again onto the Salisbury Bypass heading south/east. This detour will add approximately five miles to the trip so motorists should add commute time. Temporary traffic signals will be installed at the Naylor Mill Road ramps to improve safety and facilitate traffic flow during the detour.

With good weather this work will be completed by September.

Replacement of the US 13 ramp bridge end sections is part of the two-year, $24 million Salisbury Bypass 11-bridge rehabilitation project awarded to Corman Construction of Annapolis Junction. In May MDOT completed similar repairs to the northbound bridges over US 50 (Ocean Gateway) and MD 346 (Old Ocean City Road), as well as repairs to the bridge over Norfolk-Southern Railroad. Work on the northbound bridges over MD 350 (Mount Hermon Road) and Parker Pond will continue into the summer. In October, similar repairs will begin on the southbound bridges and the entire project will be completed by summer 2018.

Nearly 40,000 vehicles including a large percentage of commercial trucks travel this part of US 13 each day.

Road projects are underway across Maryland. Click here for e-Road Ready 2017, an interactive map of MDOT SHA’s largest projects throughout the State.

Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.

Nice. Right in time for summertime traffic.

Will this also affect the northbound ramp for going on the bypass as well right after pohanka Hyundai?

You're right. Betcha good ol' Jakey planned this well in advance.

Thanks for giving directions!! (sarcasm) Now everyone will get lost and more chances for accidents. When is common sense going to make a comeback??

These people could do this work a lot faster if they weren't part of the bureaucracy...private contractors paid to do this on a schedule and per job is the way to get things done..goverment drags a$$.

Think I will just stay home all summer....sit by the pool and chill. Much nicer...no stress.

I think the by-pass was built in the late 70's or early 80's.

2:26, I'm with you and will use that route. Let the tourists do the 5 mile reroute! Seems an extended l turn arrow or U turn arrow at pohanka could solve the problem, but maybe the volume would be too much, as 13Bus is treacherously busy.

They better get ready for a lot of accidents. Doing u turn on Naylor mill rd.

agree U-turn might work during low traffic times. Also could turn left onto Naylor mill Rd and go behind mall to Zion Ch and go rt up to 13 and go rt at Pohanka.

Smart people would get on Naylor Mill road from 13 back at the Burger king

The US-13 bypass around Salisbury was completed by 1980. The extension of the bypass to US-50 west of
Salisbury was planned. The 1990 MDOT SHA TIP showed this priority, to be started in 1992. Finally, in 2000 construction, started with a completion date of 2003. Glenndening was Governor. He took a lot of flak from area residents for the the north end by pass that connected 13 and 50. This blog wan't around then to post the trashing of the Governor and MDOT SHA for even thinking about constructing this by pass extension, let alone building it.

Fast forward to today when the area residents are again upset that one exit will be closed for maybe 3 months . Day is being blamed for a situation he has no control, nor does Culver. MDOT SHA has a schedule for completion and the contractor is committed to that date. Funny as all get out the masses were upset that the 13/50 corridor was going to be built - now they are in a meltdown that one exit needs to be closed for 3 months. My how times change.

The Naylor Mill road bridge will be Accident Central with the two left turns! Backups and accidents assured.

maybe those smart people don't know the area that well and don't know about that single lane goat path that goes by sports area where kids play or the four-way stop that will add to the congestion. and you will have some idiot trying to pass, wreck and close that road for hours and further cause congestion. smarter people would get off 13 in Dover and avoid this area altogether. the smartest people wouldn't even head to oc.

How often do you see them actually WORKING?

This will take 4 years if we are lucky.

These guys absolutely SUCK at building roads and bridges.
These bridges are less than 20 years old.
