A trash truck is not just a trash truck, especially in Ocean City, where the Public Works Department is shopping for a one-of-a-kind collection vehicle that would not be cheap.
Last month, the City Council accepted for further review three proposals to build a single custom truck that would collect trash from the 800 barrels on the beach that are now being emptied by three relics of the 1990s.
During last April’s budget discussions, resort officials agreed to put $235,000 in the vehicle trust fund to replace the decades-old Broyhill Barrel Dumpers, which have detachable trash containers that are dropped off at the Public Works employees station at 65th Street. Even with the three trucks, more than one run each is required to empty all the barrels.
The city bought the three Broyhill trucks in the 1990s at $75,000 apiece, but replacing them today would cost an estimated $459,000.

Beach trash pickup challenges from Springfest until after Sunfest...I'm not feeling this one.
I'm hopeful someone asked a major company (or any company/companies) for sponsorship/logo's on this $240K vehicle. The question would not be WHY - but WHY NOT?
"(insert Company Name) proud sponsor/exclusive sponsor of Innovative Waste Management Disposal in Ocean City MD"
Seacrets should buy it since so many of OC's problems are a result of the drunks leaving that bar.
9:25 that is definitely in the top five of the most moronic statements ever made on this site
So buy an additional Broyhill now for about $150k, and budget for another next year. That gives you a one-third bump in capacity this year and two-thirds more by next year. (Calculation assumes the $459k was to replace all 3).
The standard use vehicle will work on the beach with the correct tires and slight modifications, fo a mire fraction of these cost. But what bureaucrat dosent insist of raping taxpayers for 10x more than its worth.
After the 20th, call The Donald and "axe" if he would help out. He could make a call and negotiate what you need for approximately 52 large.
get real people. It's a trash truck, not a space craft.
For goodness sake, be reasonable!
OPM's always easy to spend.
