Metal Detectors at the school doors, Cell phones to socialize with and share or sell answers, Computers(we had type writers) and oh yeah cars;(remember walking up hill both ways?) There were no educational double standards for black and whites.

without "bullying", that has become a crutch for everything if a kid has any kind of academic or behavior problem in schoo.
And the manual typewriters had no letters on the keys. We had to feel for the little bumps on "f" and "j" and look at the book to see where the letters were located.
no whiteboards, tablets such as ipads. no additional aides in the classroom. didn't need a dress code, parents knew their children needed to be presentable without being told.
In the end retention ruled the day,because no amount of technology could improve our ability to retain unless we had the will to learn.Believe it or not,the kids in any of my classes rarely complained about the heat,because our school had a really good circulation system that kept the air moving.
I don't know what this post is trying to imply. Should kids not use the technology that is available to them? How will that prepare them for a career? Most jobs now require at LEAST basic computer skills.
People are so nostalgic about the pre-computer days but the fact of the matter is that productivity has increased with technology. It used to take a whole mail room of people to accomplish what now one person (or even an automated program) can accomplish with a single mail server. I don't understand why so many individuals fear change and have to try and bastardize everything that doesn't correspond with his/her perspective(s).
I guess the ironic thing is that this meme was created by a computer, viewed on a computer and interacted with on a computer. Hypocrite much?
And before them were wood stoves in the classroom, inkwells in the desks and an outhouse behind the schoolhouse.
