DC Bumps Its Minimum Wage To Highest In The Nation But Activists Still WANT MORE

District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser was proud to announce Wednesday the minimum-wage hike that took effect that day, though just across town activists were still fighting for more.

At $9.50, the District of Columbia minimum wage was already higher than any state in the nation before it rose to $10.50 Wednesday.

The government's only reason for wanting higher wages is that it means there will be more taxable income. This is a stealth tax increase from the government. Higher income means more taxable income. Anyone who thinks the government is concerned about the living standards of Joe and Jane Doe need to think a bit deeper.

Found a pay stub from 1990 for 40 hrs I brought home after taxes 700.00 dollars. Now people do the same job must work a lot of OT to make that much.

That is ridiculous. Holloway Tours only pays $10 hr for the responsibility of driving their buses, you have to have a CDL. Dunbar pays $11 hr and you have to have a CCW, CDL, able to obtain clearance for the US Mints and other such institutions and able to pass other State requirements for carrying a weapon.

Higher minimum wage laws are economic BS; always have been. Higher costs to employers = fewer hours for workers + higher prices to cover the costs = fewer customers. Starts a downward cycle since the employee isn't generating any additional units of work.

Higher wage tax collection observation is also correct.
