JOE there was power outage in princess anne this weekend BET thats why they put on the generator?

Anonymous said...

I'm more inclined to think electric was disconnected due to non payment. A short power outage would not likely be reason for a generator. So sad.

very sad

So apparently he hadn't shown up for work and someone called the police about that. Where is the mother of those kids? Why did she go for days not contacting her own children. This is a sad story.

Every woman who births a child is not a mother. He was a single dad and had been for some time. This is sad, extremely sad.

At least his coworker cared enough to go and check on him when he didn't show for work, answer his phone or come to the door at home.

Right on 12:35am, I mean didn't the neighbors miss any of these kids???? Sad situation all the way around. I'm sure he did the best he could for his kids...he just made a bad mistake putting that generator in the house...God Bless the family!

I'm wondering where is the mother? she must be so absent from their lives to have not missed them for days!!!!

Anonymous said...

Who cares where the mother is ! Really they are DEAD if she was there or not. The root cause is poverty. The man was feeding seven kids. He is a single parent and working. They died from a generator running in the house. The fumes from the exhaust killed them slowly and quietly. There is no odor it is a silent killer.

If money is a raised not a single cent should be handled by the mother.

PRAYING FOR ALL THE FAMILY . R.I.P. SO YOUNG

How about how Delmarva Power got called out on this one on CBS national news? You shut off electric to a home with 7 kids in it, do you think this man didn't explain his situation to them? They said Delmarva Power is doing an investigation, well I hope they find who is responsible for this! They should have worked with the man a little bit especially when there are children concerned, even he just paid a little bit on the bill. I am sad to say that I am a Delmarva Power customer and I wish I wasn't!!

Yet another tragedy that I don't understand. I recently lost my daughter and I just want to convey my deep deepest sympathy to all family and friends. I will never believe that there is this greater plan that we all should believe in with all of the evil people in the world that go on living. This man was doing his best to take care of his children as I was also and look what happen. Best their hearts.

I'm going to be the first to say it but the blame lies directly on the backs of obama and the democrats and their liberal immigration policies.
Non citizens are sucking dry the non profits that could have been contacted and helped this man and his family OUR OWN BORN AND RAISED US CITIZENS with his bills.
Now I've just read another obama policy--- and the democrats are applauding it,---- implemented that will fly children free over from Central American so they can be with relative here! ONE just ONE of these air fares would have no doubt caught this father up on his utility bills.
Nothing will change. People will continue to die unnecessarily until the voters wise up and realize that democratic policies have never worked, do not work now and will never ever work.

Shame on Delmarva Power. First there is a law in Maryland that says they cannot turn power off to a home between November 1 and March 31. Secondly they cannot turn power off to a home that has children under the age of 18 in the home. I also want to point out another side of this too. People have been bashing this father for buying a generator. Once Delmarva Power turns off your power you have to pay a good portion of your bill as well as a "reconnect fee" which can be quite sizable. Yes the father is at fault for utilizing a generator inside the home but Delmarva Power has some serious questions to answer to more so than Dad.

Poverty killed those kids and its a disgrace that the working poor in America have been shafted for so long. Now they have to compete with illegals who do not have a right to be here for what little assistance is available. God bless the grandparents and other friends and family as they deal with this loss.

11:57 I have seen it posted elsewhere too about this MD law that says no disconnect between nov 1 and mar 31. This is not true. No such law exists.
I think the confusion lies in DPL policy which is during that period their winter disconnect procedures are in effect. During this period DPL makes every attempt to contact by phone or in customers who are in arrears. If
the customer fails to enter into a payment agreement
with Delmarva Power, service can be disconnected
after Delmarva Power files an affidavit with the
Maryland Public Service Commission.
However if extreme weather conditions are present-temp at 6am 32 or below, 95 or above-service will not be terminated.

"Secondly they cannot turn power off to a home that has children under the age of 18 in the home"

Again not true. The only exception is made for someone who relies on a medical device powered by electricity to survive.

That's what I say 1:06. I looked into this father Rodney Todd Sr and while he's has his problems this is a case where it appears as though his past was really his past he was trying his hardest. Nothing makes me more mad than this because he was trying and I believe strongly in giving people a 2nd chance because you will hit on that one like him, who was showing some responsibility.
I'm not angry at the electric company. Providing electric is a very expensive thing and they can't let everyone with a sad story not pay their bills. This is where the government has failed. There is no reason why we should let one more person in this country. They are enabling employers to continue paying low wages so people like Rodney can never get ahead.

take it up with the news media around here 1:13 PM

Date-based yes
Protection Dates November 1 - March 31
Temperature-based yes
Temperature Gas and electric companies must check the 72-hour weather forecast before disconnecting a customer for nonpayment. If the temperature is expected to be 32 degrees or lower during the winter protection dates or 95 degrees or higher at any time of the year, the utility cannot turn off the power.
Seasonal Policy Utility must provide affidavit to the Commission that disconnect will not endanger the health of any household member.
Other Utility Service Protection Program payment plans for low-income customers (<150% FPG) provide shut-off protection year-round. If a household member has a serious medical condition, certified by a doctor, disconnection is delayed for 30 additional days. Customer is required to enter into a payment plan. Terminations are suspended for 55 days when people apply for federal energy assistance.

I totally agree the government has failed most of us. I wish DPI had a policy to work with people like Mr. Todd. For example to refer him to state, county, or local originations who could offer help with paying off those kind of bills. But the government is more worried about spending money on making other people who come into this country illegally, by all means lets take care of them before fixing problems with our own citizens.

I read that he did not apply for assistance this year. He had in years past but did not do so this year.

Anonymous said...

2:22 That's exactly what I said. I'll say it again there is NO law that forbids a utility company from disconnecting someone's electric at any time.
What you posted clearly and unequivocally states service can be shut off when the seasonal policy is in effect (nov 1-mar31) after providing the affidavit.

Someone stated poverty killed those kids. That is just not the case. A lack of personal responsibility resulted in the death of this family. I know it's an unpopular sentiment, but it needs to be said. What is a person who works minimum wage doing with seven kids? You can blame the government, the state, the electric company, or whoever else you want, it doesn't make it true.

If you want a better life for your kids, then you plan ahead and live your life in such a way that you can provide the necessities that a child, or family, requires. You don't just have a bunch of kids and hope it works out for the best.

If you can't pay the electric bill, then you have to at least be aware of the fumes a generator emits. You don't run one inside an enclosed building with people residing in it. Ever. A senseless and horrible tragedy, but surely not one to be laid at the feet of the power company, as far too many seem to believe. Personal responsibility. Seems like people don't even understand the concept anymore.

What I posted WAS the law.

The affidavit is what the electric company would have to file IF they were going to disconnect power. They would have to prove no danger to certain individuals if they lived in the affected home.

CALM DOWN.

And further: Spokesman Matt Likovich said in a statement that the utility discovered a stolen electric meter had been illegally connected to the rental home in Princess Anne where the family was living since November.

"There was no request to reconnect service," Likovich said. "Through the use of smart meter technology, Delmarva Power discovered a stolen electric meter was being used at the home on March 25, 2015."

Likovich said the utility disconnected the illegally connected meter for safety reasons and to comply with standard protocol.

"Delmarva Power did not disconnect electric service at this address for nonpayment," Likovich said. He added that Delmarva Power is deeply saddened by the tragedy and urges anyone with power issues to contact the utility to ensure continued safe electrical service.

I worked in a low income area of a large city and using generators indoors isn't uncommon in these areas when electric service is cut off. We handled several cases of CO poisonings that didn't result in deaths. There are 2 main reasons why people use them indoors. Either they are afraid it will get stolen if they leave it outside or it was stolen and they don't want the police to see it.

4:28 I was agreeing with you. Sorry if comment came off the wrong way.

Those of you who doubt that poverty caused it,I recommend a book called "The Working Poor".It explains in detail why so many poor people in this country cannot get ahead now.Poverty is a vicious cycle that is hard to break out of.

You all need to investigate before you speak. He may have been a wonderful father and by all accounts he was but the electric was turned off because there was a stolen meter connected to his electricity. Before you blame DP&L read the facts. Also he was not a saint. He had a very sordid past. Now that doesn't take away for the innocent lives lost. But do you all own a generator? Well I do and it has warnings all over it not to use it in a house. It even says not to use it on a porch. I feel for those poor children and their father but don't be blaming the electric company when this man was clearly the one at fault.

no problem. sometimes it's hard to get the gist of what someone is saying from a text. peace

2:10-To ignore the fact that the father made a poor choice is to condemn others to the same fate. Experience is the best teacher for most people and it's unfortunate that others only learn through anothers tragedy and loss of life.
As far a people living in poverty, the same goes. We can't ignore the fact He dug himself in such a pit of poverty by fathering 7 children that there was no realistic way for him to have gotten out. To ignore is to not ever change things.
To have any meaning change to occur you have to get to the root of the problem. Having children with no way to pay for them is a root cause of poverty.
