Say 'NO!' to the FCC Internet Takeover

On February 4, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler proposed that the federal government reclassify the Internet from an ‘information service’ to a ‘telecommunications service’ in the name of keeping it 'fair' -- a plan that came straight from Barack Obama's desk. Of course, this is nothing more than a pass for Big Government to expand its regulatory power at the expense of digital freedom.

Like all innovation, the Internet wasn’t created by government… and government certainly has no power to control it. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a provision providing the federal government with power to regulate the free-flow of information. In fact, such an idea flies in the face of the First Amendment.

ConstitutionAlly is calling every American to sign our petition and message the FCC, prior to their February 26 vote on Obama's plan. Take Action: Say ‘NO!’ to the OBAMA-FCC Internet takeover.

Add your name below and send your message to the FCC now!

Sending your message to the FCC is like sending it straight to Obama. The FCC is all for this take over of our free speech!

If you want your message to be sent, send it through your Congress men & women. Harris, Cardin, Mikulski all need to know how we feel, even though Cardin & Mikulski don't really care any more. Harris I know has always been on the fence on this, and needs a push in the right direction to again thwart this takeover.

There really isn't a good argument against the FCC doing this.

This is yet another anti-Obama initiative. People are blindly ignoring the purpose of these regulations and instead are shouting about 'big gov't', 'too much regs' or 'obama's takeover'.

Get real. It's embarrassing. Reclassifying the internet IS A GOOD THING. You want to see your internet get faster AND cheaper? Want to stop dealing with Comcast? Want to watch netflix without it being artificially slow? Well this is how to solve that.

It also shocks me that this blog seems to think blocking the FCC is a good idea. How could you think that way, especially considering that this is AN INTERNET SERVICE. This blog only stands to benefit from the reclassification.

Sean, we take no sides on this matter. It is our job to bring forth news and information out there for VIEWERS to debate.

The internet actually was created by the government back in the 60's via DARPA. It was originally called the ARPANET.

The best thing is to have this happen. Right now the ISP's hold all the access and are double dipping. They get paid from you to access the internet, they get paid from content creators to access the internet. If they feel like they can get more money from someone (like Netflix) they will slow their speeds down to a crawl to force them to pay more. Look it up, there is a ton of info out there that shows that when Comcast was fighting with Netflix the speeds they were receiving dropped drastically during the negotiations, and only improved when Netflix finally caved and agreed to pay more for the same service they were receiving. If you were buying a box of 10 loaves of bread for $5, then the grocery store said they wanted more than that only put 4 loaves of bread in the box until you agreed to pay $8 for the 10 loaf box. You would probably go to another store. Problem with this situation is that Comcast and other ISP's like Verizon are usually the only option you have due to being the only people able to access the cables.

Verizon received billions of dollars of taxpayer money to run fiber optic cables across the country to be used for phone service, which is regulated. These regulations say that ANY company that wants to offer phone service can use these lines (Title II regulations). Verizon took the money, laid the lines, then reclassified them as internet cables. This removed all regulations from the cables and made it so only Verizon could use them. So you, the taxpayers, paid Verizon to run cables across the country for better services for everyone, then they changed the names of the cables on paper so that it can only be used by them, and jacked the prices for internet up. You are paying them twice for the same thing. There is also information out there that shows they have reclassified the cables at will whenever it benefits them (read: they can make more money) to do so.

This government doesn't propose solutions unless they work to further its agenda. I think the tax argument was released by the Dems themselves. It makes it look like a small price to pay for net neutrality, but watch how quick they will be to use this for domestic spying (the true agenda) after its passed.

The Internet was not invented bu the Government, it was invented by college students and others using, yes, government funding to the Universities, and yes, it was names after Arpanet a division of the DOD.

Having said that, the government finally wound up letting the internet go and be what it is today, a free market public information base NOT UNDER GOVERNMENT CONTROL.

I can use Verizon, Comcast or satellites as an ISP. I can pat for different speeds as I wish right now.

Can they double dip? Maybe. Can they slow down speeds to bend their customers over? I guess. Can they limit you to only viewing certain sites? No. With 2 or more competitors out there, will they lose customers to other ISP's? I've dropped Comcast for Verizon.

Am I able to gear up and become an ISP and compete here locally? Probably.

So, it's not broken, but the government wants to "fix" it.

They fixed medical care, the Pony Express, the MSM, won the war on drugs, fixed poverty, and fixed flying and driving and the new DHS has stopped terrorist attacks.

Do you really want to hand over a working free speech, real information source that is your sole source of accurate information to a government who wants to "fix" it for you?
