Sony says theaters they can pull The Interview after terrorist threats

The New York premiere of the Sony movie that is at the center of its hacking crisis has been cancelled after it was threatened with a terrorist attack.

Screenings of the movie have also been cancelled at thousands of theaters across the country.

Early Tuesday, the hacking group Guardians of Peace, who have been systematically releasing email correspondence and leaking films after breaking into Sony's internal system, claimed an event similar to '11th of September 2001' would occur at theaters showing the film.

North Korean hackers are believed to be behind the cyber attack and now terrorist threat, angered over the film which tells the story of two men who travel to the secretive communist nation to kill leader, Kim Jong-un.

The Carmike Cinemas chain, which operates 278 theaters in 41 states, is now the first chain who will not be showing the film when it opens.

California's ArcLight cinemas. whose Hollywood location is one of the most famed and popular theaters in the country, will also not be showing the film.

Also backing out is Landmark Cinemas, who have now cancelled the film's New York premiere which was scheduled for Thursday at the famed Sunshine Cinema in the city's Lower East Side.

From the very first trailer I have never found the movie appealing. Not because of the potential backlash, but because it was a poor idea in the first place. The last thing I'd want to do is see a movie involving this nut.Maybe some people would, who knows?

Ridiculous... taking a threat from a bunch of keyboard warriors? Ridiculous. Show the movie, let them attack, then bomb N Korea, and any house that was involved in the threat.

So, Hollywood now bows to terrorists?

Seems to me Hollywood can be easily ignored.

it is amusing to see the hollywood elites have to deal with their own words thrown right back at them

Rush to DVD release coming up...just in time for Christmas.

While I'm reading this post a guy is on TV advising theater chains to "stand their ground".That is the very first that I have ever heard that said.I agree with his advice, but question the box office turnout. If a very few theaters showed the movie the math speaks for itself. My prediction is that this movie will break all previous DVD records, beginning in January.

can you imagine the outcry and resources the us would put into an investigation and subsequent killing of another country if they threatened to kill obama?

Here is part of OBAMAS censorship plan...next will be ANYTHING to do with ISLAM.

Excellent point 9:00.That needs to be stated on major news networks to show Americans the flip side of this coin.

Best marketing campaign of all time.

Your words were my thoughts bloggerhater !. The libs would go into full mad cow syndrome if their fearless leader were targeted. Actually Sony's stated reason is a lie, they know that the hackers have the real goods on ol' Sony in many other areas of business and will put that insider information out into the public domain for all the world to see, should Sony refuses to pull the plug on this bad idea of a KillKim movie. I guess the Fat Guy Kim John Ell Pot wins? Where's those Dennis Rodman rubber lips when you need him? Oh that's right he and the O-King are going on hol-e-day from their everyday vacation in Washington, D.C..Marion Barry issued a press release from his grave. He had Hillary Clinton present it on MSN today, Black Lives Matter, the new poster slogan for the Democratic Party. Wonder how much the rest of us non blacks matter?

Any theater who shows this in a Constitution State, should allow open carry for movie goers.

However, as we know from the past, "hackers" can only do business in fantasy land.

9:00....I'm going to have to point out the error in your knowledge. Have you ignored the North Korean film showing New York City going up flames from a nuclear attack....
They have threatened to nuke us and make a film about it, too? And as long as they threaten to kill 5 million people, but leave out the President it's all cool?
Show the film.
Or will we next stop showing "Act of Valor" because Muslims are offended and threaten terrorism if we show it??
WTF!! We now are so scared (you are very scared at the mere mention of terrorism now??) that we let anonymous people cower us into a corner, crying for the government to save us?
I think that's the plan anyway, so keep trembling....
