WASHINGTON -- There's no law that requires school systems to provide students a free bus to school; it's just always been that way. But in a time of continued school-budget cuts, Loudoun County may change that.
ABC7 reports that members of the county's school board will ask state lawmakers in Richmond to give them, and all Virginia school boards, permission to charge students to ride the school bus.
School Board member Bill Fox tells ABC7 that he doesn't want to do it, but "if it's between cutting out of the classroom and cutting from transportation services, I'd rather cut from transportation."

Try consolidating the bus stops , rather than stopping every 25 feet because the little spoiled brats can't walk a few steps.
What a bunch of crazy SOB.
I walked over 3/4 of a mile to my bus stop.
Of course the bus drivers won't give an inch , making 50,000 a year for 4 hours work.
The same ones that are now getting a free breakfast and lunch at school will also now literally be getting a free ride. The ones it will hit the hardest are the people that don't make enough to qualify for anything free, yet are working 2 jobs just to try to make ends meet. While they are working those 2 jobs and paying taxes the ones not working or paying taxes and sitting on their butts will again get something else for free.
Look out Salisbury, they will be wanting to do this next.
There may not be a law that says the state must pay for these but, don't the tax payers have a reasonable expectation that their taxes are paying for the service? I mean, what ARE they spending all of our money on?
9:03 Goin Nuts Cafe, Wawa, Brew River, Green Turtle, Backstreet grill... should I go on?
I'm sure this will affect all working people, but for those on public assistance, they won't pay a dime!
OH GEEZZZZ. The only people that will pay this tab will be the ones with money. The rest of the free riders will have the government pay the tab. It is just sickening...it just gets worse and worse. It doesn't pay to have money.
We all already pay for this whether we have kids in school or not, through our taxes.
Now you want to charge the cash strapped parents of school aged kids with a new tax?
Please hang this target poster around your neck and stand over there against that wall.
Oh, it's all cool...
The government charges so much taxes this days, and the people who foot the bill are the hard working families.
