Bear suspected of killing hiker in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - Authorities say a black bear attacked and killed a hiker in a northern New Jersey nature preserve.

West Milford police say five friends from Edison were hiking in the Apshawa Preserve when they encountered the bear on Sunday. Police say the group became frightened and ran in different directions. They noticed one member was missing when they regrouped.

A search team located the body of Darsh Patel, 22 at about 5:54 p.m. Police say Patel had bit marks and claw marks on his body. It is believed to be the first recorded fatal bear attack in New Jersey.

A bear was found about 30 yards from his body and was euthanized.

The medical examiner actually thinks it was Big Foot but they aren't telling us that for fear of creating panic.

NJ. liberals don't want a bear season to control the bear numbers and install a healthy respect for humans. So now someone paid the price. What do you expect. Just like cougar attacks in Ca. same reason. Don't want to hurt the cuddly little critters so they learn we are not at the top of the food chain. Sorry liberals it's called natural selection.
