TODAY AND TONIGHT.

HURRICANE ARTHUR IS FORECAST TO LIFT NORTHEAST ALONG THE SOUTHEAST
COAST TODAY AS A COLD FRONT CROSSES THE REGION. THUNDERSTORMS WILL
DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT. THE MAIN THREAT FROM
THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE HEAVY RAINFALL DURING THIS TIME.

AT 800 AM EDT...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE ARTHUR WAS
LOCATED BY HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT AND NOAA DOPPLER RADARS NEAR
LATITUDE 31.8 NORTH...LONGITUDE 78.7 WEST. ARTHUR IS MOVING TOWARD
THE NORTH-NORTHEAST NEAR 9 MPH...15 KM/H. A TURN TOWARD THE
NORTHEAST WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED TODAY...
FOLLOWED BY A FURTHER INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED TONIGHT AND FRIDAY.
ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CORE OF ARTHUR IS EXPECTED TO APPROACH
THE COAST IN THE HURRICANE WARNING AREA TONIGHT.

DATA FROM NOAA AND AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT
INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 80
MPH...130 KM/H...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING
IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 25 MILES...35 KM...FROM
THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 90
MILES...150 KM.

Today A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 
Tonight Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 72. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. 
Independence Day Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then showers likely. High near 80. Breezy, with a northeast wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. 
Friday Night A chance of showers before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. 
Saturday Sunny, with a high near 82. North wind 3 to 8 mph.
