Sharp increase in homicides in D.C. blamed on domestic disputes

59 homicides up from the 38 at the same point last year

Homicides in the District are up by more than half in the first six months of the year. But unlike the days when drive-by shootings and feuds among drug gangs propelled the deadly violence, the current uptick is the result of a spike in domestic killings behind closed doors that have contributed to more female homicide victims already than in all of 2013.

Through Monday, the city recorded 59 homicides — up sharply from the 38 at the same point last year. The figure marks a drastic departure from a generally downward trend in killings in the nation’s capital over the past decade and from declines in other big cities so far this year.

This is a city with extremely restrictive laws on private gun ownership, shows you that gun laws work!

5:23 It mentions no place that the homicides were from guns. Hammers killed more people in the United States last year. With the makeup of the population in DC. I would guess most could be attributed to stabbing. Stabbing by spears has been the oldest form of murder in this Country. And, DC. has a primitive population.

Murders are murders; don't try to justify them like this DC!

Well it's a good thing their mayor is telling their citizens to stay away from the Eastern Shore.

For all you idiots out there a knife is a spear. A spear is any sharp object that is intrusted or can be intrusted into an object. A simple pencil or a pen can be classified as a spear. A screwdriver can be used as a spear.
