2 More States Drop Common Core

Two Republican governors, Mary Fallin of Oklahoma and Nikki Haley of South Carolina, have just signed laws pulling their states out of the Common Core State Standards initiative amid growing anti-Core sentiment around the country.

Fallin signed the law on Thursday, while Haley did it last week, joining Indiana in officially rejecting the Core. A few other states, including Florida, are considering whether to keep the standards or have already “rebranded” the standards by changing the name and deciding to create their own standardized tests for accountability purposes rather than use the Core tests now being designed by two multi-state consortia. Fallin, who had once supported the Core, said:

“We cannot ignore the widespread concern of citizens, parents, educators and legislators who have expressed fear that adopting Common Core gives up local control of Oklahoma’s public schools.”

Maryland seems dead set on keeping this common core garbage...I pity the children subjected to it. The teachers are scared to say anything against it.

Communist goals
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

when is Md. gonna do it? After a change in Governor, I suspect.

If I could afford it I'd move to Delmar, Delaware.

I wonder if this is why the teachers union is trying to split from the state union

The Republic of Maryland will never do it... to many Librotards in this state that just do what ever OweMalley and King Barry tell them to do.

The state should throw out all this crap & teachers need to go back to teaching actual subjects, not how to take standardized tests. At a doughnut shop last week, my bill came to $7.45. I gave the clerk $12.45 & he looked dumbfounded, saying I gave him too much money. When I said then I'd get $5.00 back, he asked if I wanted that in 1 bill? This is what's coming out of our schools. Amazing!!

The math in common core is stupid at best. It requires kids to show 50 steps for what they could do in 2 steps. The rest of common core isn't so bad. SC is hardly at state to look to as a leader. They are poor in many areas. I agree with 9:55, go back to basics in teaching. Let kids build from there.

common core is to brain wash our kid and indoctrinate them into socialism or communism. The kids coming out of school today are stupid. I used to work in a retail store. I am an old school high school graduate. We hired a girl that graduated from Salisbury University. She could not take ten per cent of ten dollars without a calculator. We need to get back to the three R's reading, writing and arithmetic.
