Marijuana May Cause Heart Problems In Young Adults

Young adults who smoke marijuana may be at risk for serious or even fatal heart problems, according to a study by French researchers on Wednesday.

The findings in the Journal of the American Heart Association raises new concerns about the safety of marijuana, just as many parts of the world are relaxing laws on its use and medicinal marijuana is gaining popularity for treating certain health conditions.

The risk of heart complications appeared small in the study, which included nearly 2,000 people who sought medical attention for complications related to marijuana from 2006 to 2010.

Of those, two percent, or 35 people, had heart attacks or circulation problems related to arteries in the brain and limbs.

Respiratory problems as well due to the method of inhalation. The "puff" taken is 4 times greater as one does with a cigarette and the smoke is kept in the lungs 10 times as long as with cigarettes.

Marijuana is a naturally occurring drug. It is not ambrosia. It is not without potential harm. It is also one of the LEAST harmful substances known to man and it is high time (pun intended) to quit telling freedom loving adults what they can and can't do for the own pleasure in the privacy of their own homes (or regulated public places).

I understand it makes you want to jump off a building and play the piano real fast. Have you ever watched reefer madness?

11:59, it's not the '70s anymore. Today people vaporize weed.

How many different chemicals are in the every day air we breathe? Maybe we need to regulate the air first and see how that works out?

The article says alllll the way at the end "THIS IS NOT CONCLUSIVE". Bad research, bad reporting. At least they used more than 20 people this time.

And pot smoke is an expectorant unlike cigarette smoke which is a suppressant. Which means it helps to clear your lungs by coughing.

This isn't a study or news; its a political report.

Obama causes me more heart problems then if I smoked this. Yes I have in the past so I know how it feels. If things don't change soon I will smoke it again. map

It's strange how the media pushed for legalization and now prints the horror stories of smoking it.

Thanks after 30 years of pot smoking you tell me. My dealer should be made to place a label on his pot like cigarettes! Pot smoking may cause heart deiseasee, munchies and should be used prior to operating heavy equipment or driving.
