Incident: IRS Scam

The Delmar Police Department has recently fielded complaints involving its citizens receiving telephone calls from individuals identifying themselves as employees of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The aledged IRS employee is advising the citizen that they owe the IRS money (an amount usually in excess of $1000), the IRS has issued a warrant for their arrest and that the Delmar Police Department is holding the warrant. The IRS employee continues to tell the citizen that if they make payment (usually with some type of gift card) that the warrant will be withdrawn.

Please contact the Delmar Police Department or appropriate agency, and do not make any payments, if you receive any telephones calls similar in nature to what is described above.
