A Letter To The Editor 2-24-14

For everybody that drives in Delaware and lives in Maryland: my daughter received a ticket in Delaware in 2013, paid it 4/2013. In November 2013 was stopped in Maryland for speeding, the officer told her that her license was suspended for a ticket in Delaware. Through meeting with Maryland DMV she was told her license was suspended in August 2013 for failure to pay for the ticket in Delaware (the ticket she paid in April). She was never notified by Delaware or Maryland that her license was suspended. She went to court last week, where she was going to explain this to the prosecutor. Bob Marvel, a very nice attorney, helped her before she could (she is not very familiar with court procedures, she is actually an amateur at it). She paid her speeding fine, which she admitted to, and had the paper work stating her license was reinstated. When they called her name since her license was ok and her fine paid, she signed some papers and was good to go.

Since her job is by appointment only she had to miss a day of work. She was still in Maryland's eyes guilty of driving on a suspended license. She was told by DMV that Delaware is infamous for telling them about a ticket, but doesn't let them know when it's been taken care of.

The moral of this story: if you get a ticket in Delaware, keep a check on the status of your license in Maryland, it just might be suspended for no reason! Also if you need a great attorney call Bob Marvel.

We have idiots working for both the states governments.
Just think who we have at the federal level!

The moral of the story, SLOW DOWN!

When dealing with MVA always keep your receipt for payment. I had the same problem with a tag that was turned in immediately on the day of sale and later had to show proof. This was several years later so find a safe place to store these with your other important papers...and keep them for a long time!

I saw this happen with the show "Parking Wars". in several cases people in Philly were having their car booted for unpaid tickets. When they go to pick up their car after it was impounded they found that they could not get their car released to them because their license was suspended in Delaware.

The PA DMV said they have this same trouble from Delaware all the time but still could not get their cars released until Delaware cleared it up.

11:13 is right, they are supposed to be reciprocal but we had the same thing happen only reversed. The ticket was in Maryland and our license was in DE. They do not have any urgency in the paperwork process. They said that my fiance's license was suspended when we have proof all the the tickets were paid on time. We had to go to the court and show proof. Luckily the officer had enough sense to let us go.

One of my employees had the same thing happen to him. Really sucks when you have to lose a day's wages to disprove someone not doing their job; bet they still get paid!!
