Pennsylvanians Coerced Into Giving Cheek Swab At “Voluntary” Checkpoint

Private firm backed by police to intimidate motorists into submission

A supposedly “voluntary” survey checkpoint run by a private firm in Reading, Pennsylvania on behalf of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy caused outrage when residents said they were forced off the road into a car park and coerced into giving cheek swabs as a result of an intimidating police presence.

The Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation was hired by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to run the checkpoint, during which motorists were quizzed about their driving habits.

Reading resident Ricardo Nieves said that he had to repeatedly refuse to take part in the survey over a 5 minute period before the was allowed to leave. Nieves noted that the presence of city police and a police car with flashing lights was designed to “intimidate motorists” into submission and “gave the checkpoint an air of authority it would not otherwise have had,” according to the Reading Eagle.

Ha ha ha, if they did this in Salisbury, they would need a mobile jail in that parking lot.

I am a bit confused, if they were swabbing for RX drug use, was it an on the spot test or do they send them away for analysis? Does that mean they arrest you weeks later saying, "ah gee, you swabbed dirty"?

I think it is more conditioning to get people to comply with whatever comes down the pike in the future.

Like arresting 5 yo kids for making a hand gesture in the shape of a gun. They instill the fear and control when they are young and have less problems getting them to comply as they age.

Ever notice elephants at a circus? They are tethered to a rope they can easily break, but since they have been trained since their youth with chains and heavier objects, they can switch to ropes because they are conditioned they cannot break what is holding them.

They are in a prison in their minds, like we are being trained/conditioned to be.

I thought I read recently of a nearly identical set-up in Texas.

Same unlawful but intimidating pull over for no lawful basis.

ACLU call your office.
