Maybe The Washington Redskins Should Change Their Name

That's funny right there!

I wish Bob Costas would be scalped by some rabid fans!

Totally agree! This is the most offensive part of their name!

Maybe they will have the good sense to move on!

Or, change it to the "Warrior Indian Savages".

Cool, huh?

Good Lord, it's not even the native Americans complaining about this... break it off, idiots!

Correct! The most insulting name ever! Better the Jersey Redskins!

How about the Maryland Mayhem? Virginia Virgins? Oh forget that one, they have won one game.

They should take Washington out of their name. They don't play in DC anyway.

Actually some Indian groups are offended, which is what started this years ago. Somehow it has gained momentum, but needs stopped now. How can Hail to the Redskins be derogitory or racist?? Hopefully Snyder lives up to his word and doesnt back down.

Joe: With all due respect, I'll ask you to do the following:
After "Hail to the..." insert "White Guys" for an all Caucasian team; for a Japanese team, insert "Yellowskins"; for the Puerto Rican team, insert "Hub Cap Thieves". I could go on, but you catch my drift.
Here's the challenge: Walk into a little bar in the middle of an Indian Reservation in Arizona and say, "Hey ya'll Redskins, how ya doin'?"
If you walk out without getting the crap beat out of you, then the name is probably OK.

An Actual Opinion Of An Actual American-Indian…

Tommy Yazzie, superintendent of the Red Mesa School District on the sprawling Navajo Nation Reservation that spreads across sections of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah opines that the alleged controversy is much ado about nothing, citing there are other problems that deserve immediate attention.

“There are more important things like busing our kids to school, the water settlement, the land quality, the air that surrounds us,” the superintendent said. “Those are issues we can take sides on.”

The Red Mesa High School’s football team is nicknamed the Red Mesa Redskins.

If I were Dan Snyder - I would just pack up and move like the Colts.

I'm sure that there lots of locals that would like to have the team.

To extrapolate your post: To name your team "The Blackskins" - in tribute to the legendary warriors of Africa's Mandinka Tribe - would be OK. Correct?

11:50 no but it would remind everyone who the current crop of players are!

I always removed the red and added four to the name, but since they got RG3, there is hope...

Beats the hell outta me. Like the guy I quoted said, there are other problems out there that need attention than frivolous bullcrap like this.

And you are another one that cannot make a valid point. You might as well call them potato skins for all I care.

When I hear Washington Redskins, I don't think of any Indians. I think of a lousy football team.

People need to grow the hell up and stop being so namby pamby.

The "...there's other problems..." argument. ("I'm only speeding, Officer. Why don't you go out and catch a crook and stop bothering me with this small crap?") Hell, according to that thought, let's not take care of anything until, say, terrorism is defeated.
Valid point? Here goes:
Some Native Americans are offended. Why should they be? All we've ever done to them is take their land, take their livelihood, toss them on barren reservations, and forget about them. We even say some Anglo-Saxon "discovered" America. I think the people that were HERE when it was discovered may have had something to do with finding America!
You just "...think of a lousy football team...". Then let's just call them the Washington Sambo's - and don't think about Black people. Or how about "The Washington Rednecks"? Wouldn't YOU be offended?
