An Officer’s Life

*You wonder why he pulled you over and gave you a ticket for speeding,

He just worked an accident where people died because they were going too fast.
...
*You wonder why that cop was so mean,

He just got done working a case where a drunk driver killed a kid.

*You work for 8 hours,

He works for up to 18 hours.

*You drink hot coffee to stay awake,

The cold rain in the middle of the night keeps him awake.

*You complain of a "headache," and call in sick,

He goes into work still hurt and sore from the guy he had to fight the night before.

*You drink your coffee on your way to the mall,

He spills his as he runs Code 3 to a traffic crash with kids trapped inside.

*You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket before you leave the house,

He makes sure his gun is clean and fully loaded and his vest is tight.

*You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you,

He watches his buddy get shot at, and wounded in front of him.

*You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls,

He walks down the highway looking for body parts from a traffic crash.

*You complain about how hot it is,

He wears fifty pounds of gear and a bullet proof vest in July and still runs around chasing crack heads.

*You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong,

He runs out before he gets his food to respond to an armed robbery.

*You get out of bed in the morning and take your time getting ready,

He gets called out of bed at 2 am after working 12 hours and has to be into work A.S.A.P. for a homicide.

*You go to the mall and get your hair redone,

He holds the hair of some college girl while shes puking in the back of his patrol car.

*You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over,

His shift ended 4 hours ago and there's no end in sight.

*You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight,

He can't make any plans because on his off days he still gets called back into work.

*You yell and scream at the squad car that just past you because they slowed you down,

He's in the driver seat of the squad car, going to cut somebody out of their car.

*You roll your eyes when a baby cries in public,

He picks up a dead child in his arms and prays that it was crying.

*You criticize your police department and say they're never there quick enough,

He blasts the siren while the person in front of him refuses to move while talking on their cell phone.

*You hear the jokes about fallen officers and say they should have known better,

He is a hero and runs into situations when everyone else is running away in order to make sure no one else gets hurt and loses his life doing it.

*You are asked to go to the store by your parents, you don't,

He would take a bullet for his buddy without question.

*You sit there and judge him, saying that it's a waste of money to have them around,

Yet as soon as you need help he is there.

I don't know why anyone would want to be a cop nowdays. So many crazy people out there and so much danger

MUCH RESPECT

I know there are bad apples in Every bag; but I respect law enforcement and pray for them.

I don't have sympathy for them, how about your driving down a road with your wife and child you become surrounded by a motorcycle gang only to find out that the man that's busting out your back window is a cop.or how about your 95 year old grandfather in a nursing home who is shot by a cop. how about your mother and sister who are stripped searched on a side of the road by a cop.or how about your child who is playing with an airsoft gun and is arrested by a cop , or how about a World War 2 veteran wanted to see the memorial arrested by a cop . good God I could do this all day long .

I respect the police but often wonder as they speed 75 miles and hour on Rt 50, why aren't they setting an example and following the same laws that they are enforcing?

Some accept control which any enforcement official is designed to do while others research history and learn man is able to function and survive just fine without being told what to do from cradle to grave.

Dear 7:44,
This country has bad cops , bad cooks , bad lawyers , bad judges , bad clerks , bad retail people , bad doctors , on and on and on.
Do you hate everyone?
When you need a cop , you will realize!!!!!(maybe , you may be beyond repair)

Just see how life would be without cops protecting your sorry unworthy butt. Yes, of course, there are some that have "attitude" but that is with any job, anywhere! Look at what is in the White House for a great example. I work with police from several different agencies everyday, and have nothing but good to say about them. When you are pulled over, you will notice they are polite to you--you should be the same to them. They will be the first to come racing to your rescue of you ever need them.

Finally Joe posts an article about how policing really is.

Thank you Joe for such a supportive post of law enforcement.
Having family that puts on a badge everyday - this post is so true.

Officers/Troopers see terrible things and the worst of humanity on a daily basis. How many of us could deal with dead children, drunk driving accidents, homicides, rapes, drug addicts on a daily basis.

On top of that they have to deal with people like 7:44, a bitter hate-filled person. One can take any profession and find "bad
apples" or examples of wrong doing. How about sexual abuse within the Catholic church for example? Need I say more.

If you want to look for bad, it is easy to find. How about focusing on the hundred of thousands if not million of law enforcement officers who do good deeds everyday - hold the hands of the dying, gently break the news to family, and fight the bad guys on a daily basis.

And 7:44, if your loved one was in danger or you were trapped in a vehicle with gasoline leaking - one of the sweetest sounds you will ever hear is a police siren coming to your rescue. And guess what, they would save your sorry butt - because that is what they do.

Yes, they deserve much credit!!!

There is a problem I see here in SBY---with racing down the highway----Not going to an emergency & putting others lives in Danger!

As a matter of fact---they had a program on TV where the private sector News had followed them by helicoptor & car & recorded their speeds of up to 90 MPH---endangering everyone on the highway! The one that was the most upsetting was the cop who was speeding like crazy to get to the Donut shop !

It's a shame that these cops do not get reprimanded for such actions. The larger part of the cops don't do this---however they
are all judged by the ones that do!

I have the upmost respect for those that follow the law themselves and pray for them all to stay safe in this life threatening profession.

Thank you for what you do---but do
report the ones that don't follow the rules. They are not entitled by any means!

Ok 10:01 I ask you where are all of the so-called great cops that aren't locking up the so-called bad ones. the difference between U&I is I believe in equal justice for all. if you want respect I will certainly give you respect but you must give it in return also.you call me a cop hater that's not the truth I hate the bad ones and I hate the good ones that turn a blind eye.

PLUS... if you look at the new recruits and realize they are so young and criminals are older and meaner and street wise. The young recruits are sometimes in their mid 20s and eager to do their best and then you pray... Dear Lord.. look over these young people. I pray for one trooper in particular who would read his bible while eating lunch. God Speed to all in uniform.

No, it's just more pie in the sky propaganda. Joe left out the bad parts that cops do EVERYDAY.

You guys don't like seeing that and won't comment on the truth, but here you are like obammy repeating and confirming lies.

We all have heard this stuff repeatedly. It doesn't make it true. Sure there are some good ones out there, but the bad ones get the coverage, as they should, yet you guys won't police yourselves.

You won't get any sympathy from me until you clean up your own act, and stop using double standards.

Obey the same laws you beat us over the head with and take our money.

Why are so many of you one here anyway? Don't you have a ticket to write? Oh, that's right, you got machines to do that for you now. Must be having a conference in a donut shop.
