6 Charged In High School Brawl That Injured Teacher

'There's a handful of knuckleheads that create an unsafe environment'

(Philadelphia Inquirer) Six students have been charged as a result of brawl at Upper Darby High School earlier this month in which a teacher suffered a concussion, Upper Darby police said Thursday.

As many of 70 students were gathered at the scene of the fracas – captured by a video camera – outside the school cafeteria, but most of them weren’t involved in the fighting, said Michael Chitwood, the township police superintendent.

The charges against the six included simple assault and reckless endangerment. An additional charge of aggravated assault was lodged against Jermaine Richardson, 18, who allegedly injured the teacher and who was the only one charged as an adult.
