April Jobs Numbers Just In - Labor Workforce In Wicomico County Continues To Shrink - US Bureau of Labor Statistics April Workforce Numbers

April job numbers are just in - Wicomico County continues to lose employment ground.  The latest US Bureau of Labor statistics numbers released just hours ago shows that Wicomico's local area workforce continues to shrink as Wicomico has lost 987 jobs when compared to April 2012.

The County's labor workforce continues to shrink and it is very alarming in that as the areas population growth increases - the overall prospect for high school and college graduates finding employment continues to diminish.  For 3 months in a row - Wicomico shows the largest monthly job declines in over a year - and the BLS statistics reveals that Wicomico has experienced a dramatic reduction in its overall job base in 11 of the past 15 months - see data base below.

Yeah - but the unemployment rate is declining. Eventually - I guess no one will have to work.

Probably these numbers reflect businesses downsizing in preparation for Obamacare. Most employers are utilizing PT workers as opposed to FT positions. FedEx is all subcontract so they have no gains. UPS I noticed is starting to make their workers report to satelite locations instead of allowing them to drive company owned vehicles.

Goes to show that you just can't trust your government. O'Malley says that the fix is in and we have robust employment.

On the flip side - Change for Maryland CEO says that of the 14 Fortune 500 companys that were located in Maryland prior to O'Malley - that only 2 remain.

Regardless, I knew something was definately out of kilter.

Wait until Obamacare kicks in,most jobs will be part time or contractual work.No more careers around anymore just work 2&3 jobs just to pay bills. The elitists have us where they want us.

Great job Mayor... NOT.

If this is what QE1, QE2, QE3 does - then can you imagine what the workforce would look like after QE5, QE6, QE7?

I just do not understand how Obama got elected to office. Can't everyone see what is happening all around us. Even McDonalds now wants to hire part time workers.

This is just the beginning with Obamacare. It's going to get a lot worse the closer we get to 2014.

This is incredible information. I hope our elected officials are reading some of this.

We are definately going -ss backwards economically speaking. And everyone at the municipal level wants a wage increase. Let's face it - it ain't happening.

Salisbury city taxes and Wicomico county taxes going up and yet people living in the county are losing jobs. How does Ireton/Pollitt think the citizens are going to be able to pay all these tax increases and all the extra fees ie. rain tax?????
Both of these bottom feeders have lost touch with reality and the people THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO REPRESENT.

Personally, I do not see an economic recovery around here. Maybe elsewhere, but it certainly is not happening around Salisbury.

I work a crap low paying job and have been looking for work for 2 years now. there is NOTHING to apply to. only more crap low paying jobs. Now I am looking to move. I would rather not live the remainder of my life here in poverty. Enjoy your ghetto community, I am moving on....

I'm one of these statistics... Right Jimmy. Thanks for turning your back on me!

Yet Pollitt boast that he was able to procure a disparity grant. BIG DEAL!
That -(handouts)- is nothing to bragg about. I want someone to SHOW ME THE MONEY!! If I wanted a handout I would be cardboarding like many on RT 13.

7:30...disparity grants are not a "handout" ...they are are state legislated distribution of tax receipts collected at a state level ....your ignorance indicates that you may well be panhandling someday

Reference 7:59 Posting - Disparity grants are socialized welfare, plain and simple. Look up the word -

Disparity - 1. The condition or fact of being unequal, as in age, rank, or degree; difference: "narrow the economic disparities among regions and industries" (Courtenay Slater).

"Despair" is the condition of feeling depressed, sad or hopeless. He sighed in despair.

WHen you have a homosexual part time mayor that is incompetent at doing his job of bringing good quality jobs to Salisbury.

It sure doesn't look good around here. I've been out of work for over a year and there is only so much painting I can do around my house.

To 12:15 Post

I was thinking just the other day about how Salisbury is looking like one of those old abandoned mining towns in the west. I saw some sage brush blowing across Rt 13 & Main street and thought to myself how this reminded me of one of the old western movies. Instead of the silver, copper, or gold drying up - we have abandoned businesses.

The creation of so many laws and regulations has created an underground economy...people who work for cash and fly low. Its putting a burden on a lot of companies because they have to lay people off because of a lack of work, they get unemployment (for a while), there are no other jobs around and then somebody is looking for someone to do some work and guess what...the guy that got laid off will work for cash which no company can compete with. People will do what they have to to survive. And I can't blame them. Its really a shame that there are so many good people in this area that just want to work that may be forced to relocate just to survive. You can't work for cash forever...the IRS will catch up to you eventually. This is not the way its supposed to be in America. IMHO

Most businesses have left for greener pastures. Texas is about the only state in America that is a sanctuary for business. China, India, Australia, Ireland, Indonesia are areas that most businesses have fled to.

McDonalds has now increased their prices to a point whereby I can only afford to eat there if I have coupons.

Businesses everywhere are cutting back, laying off workers or cutting hours a worker can work. The economy is bad everywhere.

Maryland runs them out, Virginia picks them up. That seems to be scenario. Maryland keeps raising the bar on taxes to a point of no return.
