Boardwalk Tram Destroyed In Weekend Fire; City ‘Scrambling’ To Find Replacement

OCEAN CITY – Last Sunday’s Boardwalk tram fire has left the city scrambling to seek an alternative prior to the peak season.

Public Works Director Hal Adkins explained the trams are stored downtown on South Philadelphia Avenue at the Wightside facility across the street from the Oceanic Fishing Pier. The trams use gasoline and have to be fueled on a daily basis. Wightside has an underground fuel station to do so.

“It is my understanding the tram had backed up to the fueling station. Once finished fueling … went to turn the ignition, and kept turning it with nothing starting and all of a sudden flames started coming out of the back of it … which is where the motor was,” Adkins said.

anonymous 4:42, aka, Jonathan Taylor, excuse me but I published it in almost real time on Sunday as well. http://sbynews.blogspot.com/2013/05/ocean-city-lost-tram-today.html

We simply provided more information on it today with another view.

Late, I DON'T THINK SO.

Like, who cares??? Ocean City sucks anyway, only an idiot would go there and spend money on old outdated rooms, crummy beach, high prices on food, ect. The same money will take you to Myrtle Beach, and you have so much more!

Joe, I think what 442 was saying is that you had it Sunday, and the MSM has it here on Thursday. Thanks to you, we all knew this a week ago.

As far as I can tell, there's not a real place to introduce causal effects to the Tram loss. Was it only a year ago that the Town lost a Park and Ride bus? These things don't happen (or repeat) without a reason. I realize it may seem far fetched but take a look at the rust level of Town equipment. No rust on solid waste trucks, no loss of property. Rust prevalent on Transportation equipment and there is equipment loss. Why? It may simply be a mind set about equipment maintenance. Transportation may need a shakeup.

I wouldn't care if the whole town burnt down, with the terrible tourists inside. Matter of fact, I think that would call for a celebration.

I thought they started using CJ's?

The Town did start off with Jeep CJ tow vehicles. Times were good though and it seemed like the right thing to do was find something more expensive. As far as I'm aware, the CJ stopped being produced in the late 80s so a new tow solution was needed anyway. Get rid of the golf course and there's plenty money left to keep the Tram going.

d"oh.Could it be that 6 dollar a gallon bio fuel clogging the systems?

With all the town vehicles rarely being used I am sure they can find something to use in the mean time. Anon 9:57 AM is correct they were using Jeeps at one time. I love all the drama government uses like "City scrambling to find a replacement." That's a ploy to make the tax payers think it's Ok to PURCHASE any thing they want to buy. And some commenters were recently posting how Public Works Director Hal Adkins is the best choice for town manager. Another tax and spend libtard slopping at the government troughs.

Let's admit it. The Town "shake up" was driven by ego not common sense. You have what you have on the Council and on the Town management due to personal agendas. Too late to change that so live with it. Adkins MIGHT have bee a good choice months ago but not any more. It would no longer work.
