J&J Facing Trial Over Artificial-Hip Claims in Maryland

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), which is defending against more than 10,000 lawsuits over recalled hip implants, faces its first trial of claims that the devices left some patients immobilized and in pain.

Moira Jackson, a former professional dancer who received two artificial hips, claims J&J’s DePuy unit didn’t properly warn her or her doctors about the implants’ risks. Jury selection in Jackson’s case is slated to begin today in state court in Prince George’s County, Maryland, near Washington.

DePuy’s faulty ASR hips caused Jackson “severe physical distress and injury” and left her unable “to lead a normal life,” her lawyers said in court filings. Jackson is seeking at least $15 million in damages, according to the filings.

My mother had a hip implant aprox. 2003. She complained to the dr. for a number of years that it didn't "feel right". X-rays didn't showing anything wrong & it was attributed to her age. After she passed away in 2009 they come out with this stuff about the implant being faulty. What a shame that she had to suffer because of J&J's greed.

My Mother had the same complaint however I don't know what kind of hip she had put in. It was done here in Salisbury.

Problems can come from a multitude of things besides the hip implant itself, so better know for sure your Doctors "track record", if possible, before you choose your surgeon.

When you research hip replacements you get information on "things" that can go wrong during the operation. The hip may show up perfectly normal in X Ray but that does not mean something has been done incorrectly.

Scarey isn't it?
