Walmart CEO Mike Duke: 'We Do Pay Competitive Wages'

Apparently, all those protests by Walmart workers over pay and benefits aren’t getting through to CEO Mike Duke.

At a recent event, Bloomberg LP President Dan Doctoroff pointed out to the Walmart chief executive that even though his company paints itself as "serving an emerging middle class," many of its employees aren’t paid enough to lead a normal life and some even resort to food stamps to make ends meet, as previously reported by The Huffington Post. This is what Duke had to say in response:

What would he know about how to live on the wages he pays?

What ELSE could he say? That we pay so little and use part time workers at every chance so we can screw as many Americans as possible, while we accumulate more BILLIONS, because, even though we in the Walton family could heat our multiple house by burning stacks of hundred dollar bills, it JUST AIN'T ENOUGH!!! WE NEED MORE MONEY!!! Taxpayers can help with our empoloyee's rent, food, and medical supplies. Its the American way. At least for a little while longer. And PLEASE, don't defend them with "its capitalism". THIS is NOT Capitalism. Its Coporatetocracy. Legalized by their friends open to bribery in Congress.

Mr. Duke should be expected to live on $8.81/hour for six to eight weeks. During that time get sick, have to go to the doctor, not be paid for time off, and such. A real awakening is needed of some of these CEO's. If they did work their way up the food chain, or if they didn't, they need a real life wake-up call.

1049-That's the key, work your way up the food chain. Gain a marketable skill. Profit from it. Or enjoy being a cashier.

Work your way up the food chain, huh? Then in 15 years EVERYONE will be a CEO, right? And we will NEVER again have to worry about anyone having to be a cashier anymore, getting taken advantage of....Pie in the sky BS from people who, by circumstances of life, are now so superior to the rest of the human race that they can now lecture everyone else on their failures. How many workers in this country (who DID everything right) lost their saving to corporate raiders, slimy CEO's, banksters, and lawmakers who pass legislation to protect this crap? Got laid off by GE after 18 years? Got closed down by government (the coal industry? where there were a LOT of skilled workers, by the way). Many Americans didn't have parents who left them a house and $100,000 or set them up in business, or sent them to the best colleges. Quit being so pious and self righteous.
