Just an FYI, to those living in the Dykes Road area, someone broke into both of our cars last night (Tuesday, 12-4-12). Both cars were in our driveway, under a streetlight - but UNLOCKED. They took my center console which had a large amount of change and a women's business suit. Hopefully folks can learn from our mistake and lock their cars at all times - tiss the season......

As an update to - filled a report with SPD, and low and behold they got a group of three people last night in the area with a bunch of items, they are now connecting the dots of the missing items and filing charges!! Spotted by a routine patrol, tip of the cap to SPD.
why would you leave your doors unlocked! lesson learned, hah?

Concur.
This happened to us a few years back. My daughter left her keys in her car and when one or more people were going into other people's cars removing change and whatever else they found, they decided to take her car for a joyride.
Her car was found a few miles away. Surprisingly, it wasn't stripped or the stereo system she recently had installed was still there.
We live in a community where it's one way in and one way out. We have several different leo's from different agencies living here now.
If they are sleeping too, what difference does it make?
I warned my neighbors and we all took measures to avoid it happening again.
Yeah, doors should have been locked and keys removed. But locks are only for honest people.
If someone wants something, a lock will not stop them. And more damage will be done.
Not an excuse but crap happens.
Locks are there for a reason. Use them. No ones fault but your own.

Door locked or unlocked will not ever justify someone opening the door and stealing something-PERIOD!
You sound like parents whose kid never does anything wrong and makes up excuses for them constantly. Quit being apologists and the world will be a whole lot better off.

Foolish question 3:34-of course no one would buy a car without locks but locks, no locks or windows or even door wide open does not ever negate the actions of a thief.
You don't ever invade someone space and take items that do not belong to you, regardless of the circumstances.
Sooooooooooo whould you consider buying a car with no locks? Simple question. By your reasoning you shouldn't need locks so why have them?
Go ahead- leave your car unlocked. Even if you don't leave items in there to steal, any one can walk off the street into your driveway/yard & get in your car & hide. Same thing with locking your house. Even if there is nothing in there worth stealing, it's not safe to leave it unlocked. You can't trust everyone. ANYONE with bad intentions will walk around looking for unlocked doors and an opportunity. No- people should not steal, but you have to protect yourself and your property.
If you lock it they break the window and steal the stuff anyway. I pull my keys but never lock my vehicle.

It's the OWNERS fault for what a THIEF DOES?!
So if someone waltzs in your house because it wasn't locked, and steals your shotgun and then kills someone with it, that's your fault? YOU should be charged with murder?
That's great. Putting blame and responsibility on everyone EXCEPT on the one that did the sin/crime/unlawful act.
You might be older than 15 but not by much. At least not mentally.
