3rd Friday Brought In Small Crowd In Downtown Salisbury

While there were a few Albero For Mayor Tee Shirts last Friday evening, there really wasn't much of a crowd. It's unfortunate because we stuck around for a couple of hours to see if the traffic would increase but it was mainly vendors and their friends.

One person did tell me that they have come to a Third Friday event a few times now but have always felt uncomfortable. They went on to say how it feels like a "click" and for what it's worth, I have to agree.

It seems more like a private Jim Ireton and Friends Party. Considering we live on the Eastern Shore you'd think more people would be more welcoming, even if it was a simple hello or welcome. Instead, people do turn the other way, like Matt Maciarello and his Bride. Believe me, I'm not knocking Matt. I saw him three times and not once did he say hello nor did he make eye contact.

I did pat Mayor Ireton on the back and asked how he was doing but he was, (as usual) on his cell phone and lip sinked, (eyes rolling) it's Friday.

It's no wonder more people don't come. Maybe Salisbury News should open our doors and have our own little party on 3rd Fridays?

I should add: the Downtown Deli was closed and so was Eric the Barber. "Why stay open if no one is willing to spend any money".

We went downtown to eat at the Deli, he was closed? WHY? He was just sitting in a chair watching everyone! Oh WELL?!

He has been open for two or 3 of these events and no one was willing to spend any kind of real money. I personally can't blame him when Ireton allows a food trailer in there to park on the Plaza and compete with him right in his face.

Since parker place left there hasnt really been a store open to make the trip worthwhile. Last time I was there Laura Mitchel's associate was pestering me to sign a petition. I politely advised I do not live in the city and thanks to Tommy S. am thrilled I sold all of my properties within city limits.

No one has any interest any more. You hit the nail on the head Joe. It's a click. I saw a lot of people drinking liquor on the street with children there. That turned me off so we left.

Maybe the mayor really likes Joe's idea for downtown and is test marketing it, illegally.

3rd Friday is like a private party you crash. They are absolutely snoby.

How can they drink in open on the Plaza?

Joe, simple fix for when your mayor... Lower taxes...

I will NOT spend money I DO NOT HAVE on some trinkets that mean nothing to me but everything to the ones making it?

This is the problem with our country and this is why it has to be fixed or america is doomed to be that like china where your told how to do anything in your life...

Just look at how they spend, but won't save... see how they won't balance a budget knowing they can... they spend money in hopes they get grants and they don't so you wasted money for thought of getting more in the end and you didn't...

When you have taxes that are the 5th highest in the state and country, WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN?

Yes sir please may I go spend my non existent money on something i don't need just so i can help the downtown area which can't be fixed for at least 20years to come...

I'm so sick of everyone putting their energy in the wrong form on the wrong places on the wrong people... If Americans would STFU and take their FAT ass out of the house and actually be a good product of society then maybe we can fix things... but undoubtedly its a lost cause...

this is engineered to be this way... in the end its to call martial law in so obama can be dictator...

Look at the word succession and what it takes to do so... then you will see obama's plan in action first hand...

Did Matt talk to anybody? He thinks he is above everyone.

I want a tye dye in Blue!

I bet Jim is not on the phone he just holds like that so he doesn't have to talk to anyone. They would really see how stupid he is.

Maybe Salisbury should have a smoke in to see if they can draw a crowd.

I don't care for Matt M. and how he is handling his job.

Jim is good at the eye rolling! :)

Joe you should have something at 3rd Friday I would love to see the inside of building.

You would think Matt would try to be more friendly since you are going to be the next Mayor.

Anonymous said...

They need help with that event.

Its a small crowd because mayor Ireton now has a very small following. You never see Chuck Cook there either. The mayor forces the employees to go there after work but get this. He shuts down their offices at 3 pm. If we weren't worried about retaliation none of us would go. April can't come soon enough.

Mr. A, don't have a 3rd Friday, have a 1st or 2nd Friday and show them what you can do. I have never gone to one but I will come to yours. You won't need a give away to get people there. See ya tomorrow. map

Joe 4:35 here.

I need Small.

I went there a couple of years ago once and no plans to go back

Matt fits in with that crowd! SNOB!

Anonymous said...

These people need to get it together because you are going to be the next Mayor.

I went there, liked the homemade soap people. Probably should have bought some, but was generally bored at the whole show, so I sat on the thought. Maybe next time.

Jimbo, it was like walking through a "clique" atmosphere. You are dead. There were 60 ouyside and maybe the same inside. You need a thousand or better to get this real!with excitement! Can you add an auction? Some kind of interactiom needs to happen there.

The vendor's are pricey. We don't go anymore.

Give me a break now you want to complain about the deli, business is business. You get what you give If it was me I would pre make specila subs and other things and be out on the mall to make sales. You have to do something different great and affordable to make a sale for a THIRD NIGHT event.Be easy access and availble to the people, in your face great and quality.

I don't hang with that crowd in the least. But you folks bashing Matt M are way off base. He's a good man trying to do his best by this community. At least he's more upstanding and respectable then most of the politicos in this county/state! My momma used to tell me be careful what you ask for! cause you just might get it!

Another way to encourage downtown activity would be to have vendors sell more than crafts try selling antiques home made crafts and artwork at your event. They could set up in the parking garage and FORBID THOSE SELLING SHOESTRINGS AND PLASTIC as that is all that is going on in the outdoor parking lot. Make it first friday ending at noon and then have Alberos first Friday event start shortly after. The biggest problem I see is security. Who wants to go to the end of downtown and get their goods ripped off. There needs to be security for the vendors where ever they are. We had people steal from us at a home yard sale. I never remember 3rd Friday but I think First Fri or Sat would be easier to remember, just an idea we know you will come up with grand plans that will be successful.
