A video of a 68-year-old school bus monitor mercilessly taunted by
seventh graders became an international online rallying point against
bullies Thursday, with a fund for the Rochester, N.Y., grandmother
raising at least $380,000 and a deluge of people demanding harsh
punishment for the boys.
Police said Karen Klein does not want her young tormenters to face
criminal charges, partly because of the storm of criticism leveled at
the boys from the Rochester suburb of Greece after the video went viral.
"They've received death threats," Greece Police Capt. Steve
Chatterton said Thursday. "Their families have been threatened. We have
custody of one of their cellphones, and he had over 1,000 missed calls
and 1,000 text messages threatening him. And he's 13 years old. That
must stop."

It was over 400,000 earlier this morning when I checked. Someone even started a campaign for the guy who started the one for the monitor.

I'm sorry the kid has received over 1000 text messages, but let that be part of the punishment. Although I DON'T agree with the death threats against him. The officials said, he's 13, it must stop. How about the 13 year old stop HIS nonsense? And the fact they they had not yet apologized is appalling. I would be willing to bet they all have cell phones and video games which if it were my kid they would be thrown in the trash, never to be seen again.
those kids are lucky that death THREATS are all they've gotten. what they did was disgusting. i'm not sure what a fitting punishment would be but i think it should start with many many many hours of volunteer work with the elderly/under privileged etc. and none of the time spent doing that should count toward their community service hours needed to graduate.
i don't care how a kid is raised, what his/her family life is like - you know better than to treat people like that.
What do ou think these, and most other brats are going to be like when they turn 25?
I hope they raise enough money for this woman to retire and never have to be exposed to kids on the bus like this again!
When I was growing up, if this happened on one of our buses, every one of those kids' asses would be so sore that night after they got home to their parents that they wouldn't even be able to ride the bus the next day because they wouldn't be able to sit down!
I hope all of the people who yelled so loud to get rid of corporal punishment and tie the hands of parents in discplining their children get a wakeup call with this one! This is what you've accomplished, out of control youth!!!
The juvenile system doesn't really hold the parents accountable. I bet if you did that, the kids would be acting better. So sad that an older person just trying to make ends meet is bullied.
I don't agree with the death threats but it looks like they bullies are now the ones that are being bullied. There are consequences for your actions. I think these kids have learned that the hard way. Maybe they will remember that the next time. I still think there should be a punishment for them. May community service.
I agree with the anon @ 10:32 they need a good old fashion ass whoopin. Thats ridiculous for children to talk to an adult that way period end of story. parents should be at blame because you cant say the kids are angels at home and act this way in public. Isnt that supose to be the other way around.
Well I'm not so glad that she is getting this money.....because it doesn't address the true problem.....and that problem is; As a society we have forgotten our humanity! But as always, We as Americans think it will make everything better by throwing money at it!
As of right now (1:00 pm) the total is $515,891!! Earlier the total had jumped $2000 in 10 minutes!!

The money is being 'thrown' at the monitor, not the problem, as an act of compassion.
Somebody always has to rain on someone else's parade.

I agree with Spencer....and I don't think he at all is saying he's not compassionate for the woman, but He is right on point with his comment! What is the action of giving this woman $5, $500, $5000 or $5,000,000bgoing to do to adress the macro problem? It may make her feel better in the short term, but will it fix the problem? The answer is no! it starts at home, and most parents need to start being parents.......all you have to do is listen to the father of the boy....this boy knew what he was doing, he recorded it for youtube......this was and still probably is a joke to him

Know why? She isn't the one with the 'problem'.
Other than that, Spencer, what you say about the parents of some is true.
I think you should be more concerned with them than whether or not she gets any money.
