Nervous Democrats Brace for Romney Slam Dunk on Israel

Democrats are bracing for the political impact of a likely visit by Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney to the State of Israel, which would highlight the fact that President Barack Obama has not visited Israel once during his term in office. Romney, who has visited Israel several times and enjoys a long-standing personal relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, may attract pro-Israel Democrats who are disappointed in Obama's often hostile approach to America's closest ally.

Obama has visited the Middle East several times, including a much-hyped visit to Cairo in June 2009, where he addressed the Muslim world as a whole. His first telephone call to a foreign leader went to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and Obama clearly saw himself as the president who would solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by sheer force of will. However, his chosen method--public confrontation with Israel--only alienated Israelis while hardening Palestinian demands.

Bush II did not visit Israel in his first term, but twice at the end of his 2nd term

Clinton visited 4 times

Bush I did not

Reagan did not

Carter did, once, late in his only term

Ford did not

Nixon did, 2 months before he resigned

Just the facts, folks!

8:57 What is your point? Your comment has direction except Obama is the only Muslim President our Country has ever had. There lies the truth.

8:57 what is your point...."repubs didn't visit in the past"? Silly. We're not talking about the past presidents. We're talking about the current president and the contender visiting an ally when an existential threat lives righ next door and is rattling its sabre.

10:15, sorry to have to spell it out to you clown. You can't use the "he didn't visit" argument to bash someone when it seems that visiting Isreal historically isn't a high priority for any US president. Take a day off from your partisan high horse and enjoy some objectivity today.

"pro-Israel Democrats who are disappointed in Obama's often HOSTILE approach to America's closest ally."

Obama shows no sympathy toward Israel as the nation is openly threatened to be destroyed by Iran. If the American Jews are wise they will vote Republican this year.

"hostile approach"? Because he didn't agree to allow Isreal to further destabilize the middle east and drag the us into a third all out war? LOL. Maybe you clowns, who can't seem to think in 3D, should have been questioning every move that the previous pres. made just as hard. Maybe then our military would not be stretched as thin by an unncessary war and we would be able to go in guns ablazing against the country that does have an active nuke program and supports international terror. Better yet, since you grossly miscalculated when previously in power, how about you sit down and shut up because obviously your strategic thinking is quite flawed.

To say that Israel is America's closest ally is a real stretch. Both Britain and Canada are nearer to the top of that list, as are many other NATO nations.
