Like everything, the infrastructure of Mall was falling apart. The owners let it fall apart after time, not even trying to keep it nice. My last memory of this was searching for evidence after a young girl was murdered. My other memories was going there many times for Friendly Fribbles.
Gillis and council pushed for byPass, which bypassed Salisbury, and was the beginning of the end. Sure we had traffic all summer, but we had thriving businesses. Now people have one destination, Baltimore to OC and thats it. The town has become a donut, and trash and I really blame that bypass and those politicians who benefited from it.
I guess you have to make money some how being a politician, I mean most of them are poor arent they.
OffTopic-Brietbart BigGovernment has a posting and clip of Doug Gansler that is truly shocking if you live in Maryland regarding the corruption and dishonesty involved in getting Gay marriage bill passed. Gansler should be disbarred.
it's still there, just all ground up in a giant pile of rubble. nice what they did with that $14,000,000 TIF that dunn, cathart, comegys and shields gave the developers, approved by tighlman.
got to wonder if that pile has been tested for asbestos and other hazzards. has to be full of mold and mildew, it's been exposed for how long?
loved this mall. great memories. lots of fun and fellowship with friends and family. shopping was fun...
Gillis is the one who pushed for that bypass that killed downtown? Really? Now he claims he can be the savior of it? Really? I'm asking, is it true he pushed for that bypass, because it makes a difference in how I see the rest of the events with him.
I moved to Salisbury in 1978 and loved going to this Mall. Back then, it was really very nice - loved shopping at Hecht Company, Sears, etc. Those were the good ole days!
So if the new mall goes under, whos fault is it then?
A lot of us could get emotional looking at this photo.What a great place this was.Does anyone recall the huge piles of snow in the parking lot following the blizzard of 1979?
Dig deep, follow the money that's what it is all about. Who profited from this, was it the farmers who had the land orpeoplewho bought just before bypass was put inso state paid premium prices.

Going to the mall was such a big deal back then. You could walk around smoke wherever you wanted, know most of the people you saw, and not worry about being killed or robbed or the encounter with gangs and wannabe's.

It was a simpler time but then there was'nt as many of us.
I remember being a little kid driving by it with my parents when it was being built and asking my mom "whats a mall ? and in the 70's doing donuts in the parking lot late at night when it snowed, with Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" cranked up in the 8-track ... I miss that Mall.

10:25, you can not talk in the library. The mall is where friends and family met, talked and shopped. In its hay day, loved going to the old mall than the new centre.

Secondly, Someone mentioned Gilkerson and then follow the money. Do you all realize that Gilkerson made millions off of the bypass being built? Remember the small briarpatch of land beside Arby's on 13 north, about where part of the on ramp is? He made the State (us) give him 10 million dollars for that little piece of property so the bypass could go through. If you don't believe me, check it out.
Gillis also owned the property by the on ramp to the bypass across from the new mall. The property which is now an Arby's and motel...
think maybe he knew what the bypass route was in advance?
