They are saying one was shot as a part of some task force in Cambridge.

Maybe people will have a little more Fing respect for the lives that cops put on the line protecting us from criminals.

I sure hope he's okay cause the sheriff's office doesn't have any disability!

anonymous 11:39, He was working with a federal task force. I'm sure he'll be covered.

1139 Seriously?? That is the comment you want to go with?? Shut up!!

Thank you Joe for letting us know that this Deputy is going to be ok and who he is. We are praying for him and a speedy recovery and for his family who I'm sure are worried out of their minds.

Why if in Cambridge did he not go to Dorchester generial? Or fly to Shock Trama, not back to PRMC. Somewhere the stories wrong, as always...................

11:52 am, I totally agree! Dorchester General can certainly treat a gunshot wound to the arm. Maybe they will tell us why later...

I'm a nurse who works @ DGH. Maybe he went there because PRMC is considered a Regional Trauma Center & DGH a small county hospital is not considered one.
If the weather is bad then the police helicopter would not fly him to shock trauma they'd use the closest Regional Trauma Center which would be PRMC..

No reason for that on here. I am a deputy and the first thing I thought of after I found his condition is that I hope he can go back to work in the future because the disability is horrible. One of the worst in MD. Something that the deputies have been asking to be changed for over 15 years. It is scary to have to worry about that also.

So you see, if (when, praying for it) Funk is ok, it is a huge worry about being able to support your family and live on the disability. It is really that bad.

Imagine if you are injured at your work and then made to live off of roughly 28 to 30% of your income and then told you can't make any more or lose the benefits entirely. Scary thing to have to worry about on top of getting shot.

The disability REALLY is THAT bad.

So you see why it is being said here. Every agency around us has a better disability, EVERY.

Prayers go out to you Funk.

Why don't we all focus on the real issue here...a good man, putting his life on the line for all of us, has been injured...prayers for he and his family are what is needed now.

Amen 12:33 not to mention his sheriff department family. To all of you that have a child or family member in law enforcement, this is the moment we all fear. God Bless Funk Family!

If it's the same disablity I was getting for being FMLA from my employer, it does stink. I get more from unemployment since they let me go.

At least I can live on my unemployment until I get another job, if I was still on that measly disabilty check I'd be going through foreclosure and just lose it all.

Then again, I'm not up to my ears in debt like many are these days.

God bless all of our law enforcement officers.

Honestly if someone came into my home forcibly and unwanted..... cop or not they would be shot also .... but not in the arm.... it does suck for the cop but those things can happen on the job and its a risk you choose to take when you become a cop.... dont wanna be shot at by a criminal dont become a cop

Thank God and glad the officer is going to be ok. That said, Sheriffs dept (unlike a lot of tax paying people out there)have a disability program... everyone would like to have better pay, better insurance and better disability but the Sheriffs Dept is paid as good or better then other area Law Enforcement. If you want better disability feel free to take out a private policy. Your employers, the tax payers of Wicomico County are flat BROKE

Well then why don't you bring up the disability issue at another time?? If you were a family member and looking for an update or information, the third comment they see is about disability how do you think it would make you feel? It was not the appropriate time to bring it up. Let's get him on the road to recovery, his family by his side and then start discussing the disability issue.

Anon 1:20 are you kidding...?!

You are the exact reason for the downfall of our morals in society. We should not and NEVER accept that these things just happen or are part of the job.

Instead, WE, as a community need to come together and be outraged that this piece of trash suspect shot one of our deputies.

WE all should come together as a community and reject violence against anyone in our community. When this happens the crime rate would drop.

I think this is a perfect time to bring up disability. What better time... if I were the deputies family, first and foremost, after he is assured he does not have life threatening injury, my attention would be directed to his health care and disability.

They are not separate issues. While it is all fine and good that people will now get to stand up in front of cameras and get media exposure off of this tragic incident.. facing facts is important. The bosses have not stood up and gotten disability and neither has the county council. So while cops are putting their lives on the line daily, they cant count on the people they are protecting, to protect them.

I hope the deputy makes a full recovery and IS back to work. Otherwise, this poor guy might be on SSI because of LACK OF ACTION taken by those in charge.

Get better soon, deputy!

Well said.

I guess some people do not know and understand that County council one right after the other have promised to take care of this issue and then back out of the promise every time.

To answer the money question, they could make changes that would not cost any money if they wish that could easily help in the disability area. They just won't do it. The past county HR head did not like the Sheriff's office and would not even listen to the suggestions.

Now some of the current council members are backing down from their promises to change things.

I hope Funk will be ok to return to work.
