Authority To Place Speed Cameras Around Salisbury - LOOK OUT

Joe

Sometimes I go about my daily business as usual and then something of such magnitude comes about that it just takes my breath away.
First it was the authority to place a single speed camera in Fruitland. Then - they expanded it to in front of Bennett High School. Then, Salisbury Middle School:

While looking at the County Council briefing book - I am stunned at what is being planned in and around Salisbury.

Here is an excerpt of the proposed locations:

lol are you kidding? I have heard of people getting tickets from these machines when their car wasn't even in the STATE.

You must be another brown shirt cop.

They wouldn't make money if people didn't speed. And usually these things are set at 12MPH OVER. If you are going 12MPH over the speed limit anywhere, no less near a SCHOOL, you deserve a ticket!

Yeah, 37mph is such a high rate of speed.

How many remember the thread Joe put up not that long ago that showed POLICE were speeding through these cameras?

Bunch of hypocrites.

Out of 1000 tickets, it is POSSIBLE that there could be one mistake. These cameras are very accurate. You all are just mad because you will have to start obeying the speed limit. Also, what the author apparently does not understand jurisdictions. Fruitland is separate from Salisbury is separate from Wicomico. How do you not think you deserve a ticket for going 12 mph over the speed limit, and if you loan your car to someone that breaks the law, get the money from them, or be careful who you lend your car to.

This is what they do with your hard earned tax dollars, they use your money to extract more money from you.

maybe people dont want every aspect of their life monitored? This country is going the way of the toilet

They put one of these camera boxes on the curb right outside the college apartments on S. Divison St. I cant wait til one of those roudy college frats tares the S*** out of it just for fun.

lol. I have to laugh because that remark is so typical and not really true.

They intentionally send tickets to people KNOWING they are not guilty, because they never drove past the camera. That's a matter of record.

They send the ticket out anyway because they know most will just pay it and not question or challenge it.

Sorry I don't fit the mold of the conditioned, complacent and obedient. Everything that comes out of the governments and police departments mouths has to be proven to me. And proven to my satisfaction, not theirs.

I hope I never lose that quality and wish more would acquire it.

The truth is...I do not speed and I will not receive a ticket from these cameras...

I am totally against it because this matter has nothing to with safety...this is solely a way to gather more money and it's implementation is economic.

I would like to know what traffic studies have been done in these areas to warrant the placement of these cameras...

This is nothing but another tax and infringement on the general population

This more of a police state idea.yes the little children should be protected but with crossing guards at ever street corner why the cameras. Why the cameras 24/7? Why not place them everywhere in the city? Ever street corner? Every road ?
No one should exceed the speed limit at any time 24/7
For any reason
People, this is a good idea ( who is against young schoolchildren) but it carries bad results.it like a cancer , it can spread everywhere .it means well but in the end our right have been trampled

These camera's are being placed in the school zones so this should be the responsibility of the County Sheriff not the city police. It's obvious the city is being greedy on this one.

The more speed cameras there are, that means cops can go and handle real crime, instead of having to waste time because people feel they are above the law and can speed everywhere. 12MPH over is ridiculous. Yes, 37 in a 25 is BAD. 45 in a 25 is reckless, and you're almost there. Speed limits aren't so much about speed as they are about stopping distance. A 25mph speed limit is generally a residential or similar area where there's high likelihood of someone pulling out in front of you or a pedestrian crossing. If you're going almost 40, YOU WILL NOT STOP IN TIME. And if it's a pedestrian, YOU WILL KILL THEM. Take some personal responsibility for your driving. They wouldn't have to do this if people didn't speed, it would be a waste of money for them. Supply & demand.

So you're saying that speeding takes precedence over 'real crime' and cops need help with speeders so they can go catch real criminals? Even tho every police dept. has had officers caught in these same cameras?

12MPH over is ridiculous. Yes, 37 in a 25 is BAD. 45 in a 25 is reckless, and you're almost there

How fast were those cops going Joe?

Take some personal responsibility for your driving. They wouldn't have to do this if people didn't speed,

Unless you're a cop.

it would be a waste of money for them. Supply & demand.

As in removal of these cameras, along with red light cameras when they don't turn a profit.

When the cameras cannot pay for themselves, which is always the case sooner or later, the cameras are made inoperable or removed altogether.

So again, I have to laugh at remarks like these. Typical bs. It is always about the money and not safety.

Mark my words, when people get used to these cameras, they will slow down...until they are not in range and drive the same as before cameras were installed.

But thanks for being so concerned about people's safety. That's why you guys don't speed through these zones right? Riiiiight.

seeing what comes out of some of these high schools maybe we ought to raise the speed limits, save society the damage down by all those future felons!

cameras... wouldn't a ball peen hammer take care of em in short order?

Anonymous said...

Why doesn't the sheriff concentrate on gangs and drugs instead turning Salisbury into a speed-trap like Greenwood, DE?

Anonymous said...

Why aren't the kids punished for not using the crosswalks instead of all the speed cameras. These crosswalks are put there for a reason and those yahoos walking over there behind Wi Middle, in front of Bennett and Parkside, over by WI Hi, etc. just plain don't care, they kind of just dare you to hit them. They are the ones who should be made to learn what crosswalks are for and if they still choose to ignore what they are for then punish them.

The fact that our law enforcement officers have been pointed at us like loaded guns to raise revenue is indicitive of a deeper problem. Our elected officials have learned that raising money at gunpoint is acceptable and is supported by judicial rulings. It would appear that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people has become a government at the people and on the backs of the people. BIG changes are needed or we will be worse than China in a very short time.

By the looking at the list - it looks as though these speed cameras ARE GOING TO BE ON VIRTUALLY EVERY CORNER OF THE COUNTY.

This kind of crap ought not be allowed.

6:40am
Because short stuff Barney Fife is running the dept.
Drug sales make money for the higher ups and protecting gangs from each other gives the dept a warm fuzzy fealing. Weee! Everybody look at me!

Anonymous said...

Yikes - this is scary. The fine print says that the Sheriffs department seeks to put these devices within 1 mile of the schools - so they could be positioned pretty far away or virtually anywhere around the county.

THIS IS PRETTY SCARY - AS WE ARE ACTUALLY LIVING IN A POLICE STATE.

Anonymous said...

I did 70 mph through the speed cameras recently, middle finger up close to the windshield. I will not conform to this police state.

Anonymous said...

Boy, whoever is going to be collecting all this fine money is going to make a fortune when they put the camera on Rt. 50 by Wicomico Middle School. It's still not going to stop a kid from getting killed. The kids play "chicken" with the cars. Crosswalks...the kids don't know what they are (or even care). If you're going to fine the speeder, ticket the kids, too. If they can't pay cash some additional community service like picking up trash along the roadway might help.

Anonymous said...

Why not a no driving during school hours law.

Anonymous said...

How about enforcing the laws we ALREADY have? Like crossing street in crosswalk only. Crossing WITH the light. Don't dilly dally and taunt vehicles to hit your sorry butt.

How about...how about... any number of things? How about ticketing kids who jaywalk? Impede flow of traffic?

How about allowing cars to hit the slow and stupid ones?

Yeah, I know. Last one a little over the top.

I was turning off of College Ave. onto Adams Ave, a truck blew by me probably doing 50mph, yet it was my car that would have the picture taken as I was in the right lane.
I do not think the camera can discern which vehicle was actually speeding.
If I receive a ticket via mail, the camera and all associated equipment will be destroyed. PERIOD!

Wear a mask so if your picture is taken, it won't do them any good.

I would like them destroyed as well, ticket or not.

Its all about the MONEY. Thats all our representatives do anymore --- figure out new ways to fine us, increase "surcharges", regulate us, tax us and keep us under "surveillance". And add new ones that we would have laughed at 10 years ago. It ain't no laughing matter NOW, is it? They don't give a rat's ass about our "health" or "safety". They couch it in those terms so it makes you look like a "bad citizen" for opposing it. Or a "crime-coddling communist". Further, its only the BEGINNING. They have spent so wildly and without constraint, that you can't even begin to IMAGINE what the slimy, thieving snakes are going to take from us next. Perhaps freedom is next on their agenda. Ya think?

Anonymous said...

For those of you who say to go to the person who borrowed your car and get the money from them, are they going to get the ticket removed from your insurance records and the points removed from your driving record as well?

Anonymous said...

Why not double the money...you have speeders being fined because of cameras and since the cameras are doing the job of the police, we can have a reduction of the police force members that are no longer doing their job... the reduction of each officer will probably save at least as much as each camera brings in.

Now see... that's real efficiency ...

I got an automated speeding ticket in Baltimore Co.Problem was I was'nt in Balt Co when the infraction occurred. It turned out to be a misread tag# from another vehicle.

February 21, 2012 5:07 PM

you get no points from cameras. just pay the ticket and you're done. which is what they want anyway.
