STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 16, 2012) – Governor Martin O’Malley today issued the following statement honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"Today, we honor and reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"At a time in our nation when many are divided whether by political or social beliefs, we should all remember Dr. King's belief in oneness—one nation, one people, one human spirit.

"When so many of our families face hardship and so many innocent children are hurting, we honor Dr. King in our service and sacrifice to one another. Together, we can look to his unwavering fight for progress to help us turn challenges into opportunity and the impossible into victory.

"Dr. King and all those who fought for justice before us struggled so that we could enjoy a better quality of life. We should not let their struggles rest in vain as we think about the world we will leave to our children and the choices we make to give them a better future."
