Excellent, now maybe they will sell it for a proper amount and it can go on the tax rolls.
Watched it tonight on PAC-14 and I have to say Brad Gillis is very good looking but he needs to calm down a bit. I understand he wants to carry the torch for Palmer, his Father, but come on Brad, use some common sense.

so how long past the 60 day agreement did they finally decide to do this.if i miss a deadline im cut off the next day.but since im only a small money maker i bet i wouldnt get anytime extra to figure out how to ~~~~~ the city out of the property.and then say i m doing it for the city
8:17 - Proper amount? That is generally determined by what a buyer is willing to pay. My bet is this thing is going to be sitting around off the tax base for many years to come, further adding to the demise of the failed downtown Salisbury.
Council once again proves Ron White accurate - you can't fix stupid.
I bet that the Gillises are really glad to be rid of the firehouse. They have probably realized how much money they would have to spend to get it into shape for another kind of business. Now that it's back in the City Council's hands,it should be interesting to see what happens. Probably no one else will pay them $100K, even if it's supposed to be worth more than that. It is a white elephant; now it's the City Council's--and ultimately the taxpayers'-- white elephant.

The current mayor and council are very good at shooting the city and its residents in both feet. Tonight is but another example -- they shunned the only party who is ready, willing and able to rehab that place.
12:58am--I noticed your post is after midnight so that should explain it. If you had watched the meeting you would know the mayor advocated to get this back on a work session as soon as possible. Plus the mayor had no vote on this.
Don't be so naive. Is anything that prevents CVP from resubmitting another purchase contract?
The way I see it they had all these months to figure out the property is cost prohibitive without actually having to pay for it. Wouldn't it be nice if all investors had this opportunity before forking over the cash for a property?
The bottom line is that the bidders didn't live up to the terms of the agreement...the city shouldn't give anyone special allowances.
Barrie and Gary and Louise were so hot to give this building away that they threw in land they couldn't sell!
This council's motto ought to be "Just Say No to Backroom Deals"!

I agree with 8:09. Someone finally stood up to money.
So we're back to square one. The firehouse will no doubt sit vacant for months or years to come. Many of us who have lived in Salisbury for a long time--I've been here over 60 years--have nostalgia, of course, for the building, just as we do for Feldman Brothers. Both buildings are probably going to sit as they are for quite some time, testimonies to "progress" and a dysfunctional City Council. The firehouse, as with any other building, is worth only what someone is willing to pay, not necessarily what the realtors and the City finance department say it's worth. Yes, the Palmers did not hold up their end of the bargain, but now where do go? Let's watch the Council talk and talk about what to do; in the end, they'll do nothing.
Put the ambulances back in the station with the career fire fighters so we can start riding equipment on calls out of our new fire house.
At least this council has the nads to follow the contract no matter who it is. The same slackers voted the same way as usual. Gillis didn't follow through due to inability to get freebees from this council. About Time.
So now, 11:41, what's next? The Council will just talk it to death for months to come. I understand your point, but sometimes for the sake of efficiency, the Council should have gone with the Palmers even if the i's were not dotted or the t's crossed. Viable plans for the building's use were being developed, though not in the time frame given to them. We've got to move on!
You people blaming the council got rocks in your head. Mayor Hissy Fit has done nothing but keep in place every back room deal, special project and special treatment he raged against before he became mayor.
Maybe REAL "help is on the way". Mayor Disappointment sure wasn't it!
Open the doors and let the people who payed for it use it! It's not the council's building, it's not the mayor's building it's the people's building! This winter will be cold and i bet a lot o' folks could find comfort and warmth in that nice old building.
