Three Annapolis brothers left the comforts of the bay and the boat to spend a week in rural Oklahoma this summer catfish noodling for Animal Planet's new show "Hillbilly Handfishin'."
Popular in mostly Southern states, noodling entails wading waist-deep in water while feeling around for catfish holes with your hands and feet and hoping one will bite you. Once the fish latches on with its sandpaper-like mandibles, the noodler lifts the catfish out of the water. In the show, teams of contestants compete to see who "noodles" the biggest fish.
Brothers Brent, 33, Greg, 33, and Jed, 27, Prossner grew up in Easton, but now live in downtown Annapolis.
Brent, the most "outdoorsy" of the three, according to Jed, came up with the idea after seeing a pilot episode of the show last summer.
"My first reaction was yea, absolutely!" Greg said. "But I'm thinking there's no chance this will ever happen."
