World War II Continues To Haunt Pearl Harbor

Crews dredging the harbor recently found a skull. Forensic scientists evaluating the skull say they are 75 percent certain it belongs to a Japanese pilot who crashed during the surprise attack. Items found with the skull seem to confirm its origin. Among them, a Coca Cola bottle from the 1940s. Jeff Fong is an archaeologist with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Pacific. He says local police have ruled out any possibility the skull is from a recent missing person. Fong says the skull is also not from a Hawaiian burying ground. The December 7, 1941 event touched off America's entry into World War II. It killed 2,400 American service members. Fifty five Japanese airmen also died.
