Congressmen’s disregard for jobs a slap in the face to Marylanders
ANNAPOLIS – Tonight the United States House of Representatives passed bipartisan repeal of President Obama’s government takeover of health care, yet Representatives John Sarbanes and Dutch Ruppersberger voted against repealing the business crippling bill. According to Maryland Republican Party Chairman Alex X. Mooney, Representatives Sarbanes and Ruppersberger’s disregard for Maryland employers is a slap in the face to the record number of unemployed Marylanders and businesses struggling to make ends meet.
“Obamacare places unrealistic, burdensome mandates on Maryland businesses, making it harder for them to compete and create jobs,” said Mooney. “In the midst of continued record unemployment, Sarbanes and Ruppersberger must stop viewing businesses as a piggy bank for their unpopular liberal agenda.”
The National Federation of Independent Businesses, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, State Legislators and countless economists have all pointed to Obamacare’s devastating long and short term effects on employment. Even former Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin, has questioned the CBO’s cost estimates and the employment impact of Obamacare due to the bills budget gimmicks.
“Sarbanes and Ruppersberger had a clear choice, continue to support the burdensome anti-job Obamacare bill, or repeal it and get started on legislation to address the real issues facing our health care system – cost of care,” Mooney said. “Unfortunately, they again stood up for a liberal bill that didn’t address the growing cost of health care, while stifling job growth in a recession – Marylanders deserve better.”
