coast guard spotted it about 2 miles out around noon and it made its way ashore in no time after that. crews were ready and made short time of getting it back to the area for inspection friday. it takes alot of heavy equipment to get that thing saftley taken care of. Hats off to OC public works..

So.... I checked out the DT publication. Im glad they think it's absolutly necessary to talk about how much people think the whale carcass stinks so bad. HELLO!!!!! It's a rotting whale carcass! All living things die and yes they do smell. It's a part of life. If it didn't wash up on shore so quickly it would have been eaten by sea critters and such. Plain and simple, a dead whale washed ashore. Would have expected more on cause of death, migration patterns, or somethng a little more relevant than how much it stinks.

Go ahead and ask all those people at the scene what they thought was the most distinguishing part of this event, and they're not going to talk about migration. They'd say - this thing stinks to high heaven. So yeah, it is necessary, because it's part of the story.
