Final Opportunity to Walk Through Old JMB, Preview Auction Items
Old James M. Bennett High School
The Wicomico County Board of Education will offer alumni (and their guests) of James M. Bennett High School a final opportunity to walk through the old school from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, July 8. Those interested in walking through old JMB one last time are advised to dress for a very warm building, thanks to the heat wave and the lack of air conditioning in the building (doors will be open and fans will be running to make old JMB as comfortable as possible, but it will be hot). Water will be available at drinking fountains, or tour attendees may bring their own water bottle.
The school year ended at old JMB on June 11, and since then teachers and staff members have moved to the new JMB in preparation for its opening on Aug. 30. The school system has collected surplus equipment and furniture from the building and from other locations for the school system auction that will be held at old JMB starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 10.
Those who take the tour will have the chance to preview the auction items, located mostly in the gym, cafeteria, hallways and some classrooms such as shop. (A list of auction items is now posted in Top Stories at www.wcboe.org.)
The July 8 tour will be the last opportunity for former JMB students and guests to walk through the building; it will be closed in preparation for demolition later this year. Anyone wanting to share a JMB memory may send their thoughts to comments@wcboe.org or leave a message in the voicemail box at 410-677-5251.
