JIM IRETON GETS THE WORD – FROM A JUDGE!

I thought Mr. Ireton had heeded the plea by Gary Comegys to have leniency for the property owners that the City of Salisbury cited for failure to clear sidewalks during the big blizzards that occurred this past winter. But that didn’t happen, and the District Court has refused to uphold a fine issued by the City.

Are you really surprised? Apparently Jim Ireton is. He allowed the Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance Department to proceed on 100 or more citations that were issued.

Finally, after the first failure in court, he has directed NSCC to cease and desist. Now its operatives will have more time to issue citations for such things like grass in sidewalks and peeling paint.

Can you believe it? The City failed to clear many neighborhood streets, Fire Department and the Downtown Plaza, but tried to hold homeowners and others liable for not clearing sidewalks. Ireton should have stopped that effort dead its tracks at the get-go.

And now Mr. Ireton is wailing about changing the code. What’s needed is more common sense and compassion, not more legislation.

The City of Salisbury is ridiculous and they are terrible to work for. They try to screw any homeowner and/or company they can. I'm not surprised companies are closing up and heading somewheres they are welcomed with open arms. I could solve the cities problem in one day.

So the city takes millions of our tax money to buy the best of the best in snow removal equipment and then wants to fine us for not moving 30" of snow with a shovel?
This is typical of the out of control government.

They want the money. The snow and grass hurt no one but the city only cares about the money. Fines in either case should only be used in extreame situations but as I said, the city only wants the money and the counties are no different.

Ireton's snow citation stance is another of the many reasons most homeowners proudly tell folks though their address says Salisbury, they live outside the clown run zone.

Ireton is foolish to support the NSCC. They sure did not support him in the election. Their complete department was created and conceived by Barrie Tilghman and being afraid of the unknown , supported Gary for Mayor instead of Jim. It is Gestapo crew designed to extract money from it's subjects. That is their #1 purpose. Have their fine money donated and see how hard they write citations then.

Hey, Joey! How come you're so pro-Comegys these days?

After years of claiming he was just Barrie's tool, you now keep mentioning how kind he was.

Yeah, he was kind to you and all the other landlords in the city.

Joe, it wasn't so much that Comegys wanted leniency for people as he wanted to take a poke at Ireton for doing a lousy job.

I remember the discussion well. The NSCC people were responding to other residents' complaints about places where snow still wasn't shoveled after a week after the final snow. They weren't just driving around looking for someone to nail.

After talking to Councilwoman Cohen yesterday about the Daily Times article, the code people wrote tickets for a lesser offense than the code called for. The code is really old.

If I got this right, the code people were being more lenient than the code and because the charges didn't match, the judge couldn't do much with it.

Maybe the code change that is coming is to decriminalize failing to shovel snow because the old code is stupid.

1425, makes sense. We got bigger things to worry about.
