Town Announces Funeral Procession Route For Patrolman Chad E. Spicer

The Town of Georgetown invites the community to pay its final respects to fallen Georgetown Police Officer Chad E. Spicer during a public procession through town on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.

As many as 100 police agencies from across the United States are expected to accompany Patrolman Spicer’s casket following a memorial service that afternoon. The service will begin at 2 p.m. at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, off Del. Route 404, west of Georgetown.

A public viewing will precede the memorial service. That is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.

Immediately following the memorial service, expected to end sometime after 3 p.m., the police procession will make its way to downtown Georgetown, going around The Circle at the center of town before winding its way back to Cokesbury Cemetery for interment.

The procession route will be as follows:

From Crossroad Community Church to Del. Route 404 (Seashore Highway) east to U.S. Route 113 (DuPont Highway), south to U.S. Route 9 (West Market Street), east to The Circle, north to North Bedford Street and then Bridgeville Road, and finally west on Del. Route 404 to Cokesbury Cemetery at Cokesbury Road.

The public is invited and encouraged to line the procession route after the 3 p.m. hour.

Motorists should expect periodic, temporary delays along and near the route to allow for the procession. Drivers should follow posted detour signs and obey officials directing traffic.
