Right now the facility is being used by K-9 Police Dog Training. Many have inquired about its future buy the Tilghman Administration refuses to answer. My Father In Law suggested it be used as a Children's Library, probably the best suggestion to date. So why would it be excused as a great idea? Because the Mayor wants a new Downtown Mall like Rockville with a Library built in.
Does anyone else have any good ideas for this facility we may not have heard of yet?

Make it an Ambulance Headquarters. That away they don't have to ride around the City so they can have a quick response time. Iliveon the south side of the County and the Station doubles the response time if not more. They want the County to help with expenses but they located so they only serve the Westside effectively. This would again put their commitment to servethe whole County with sorter response time, at least for Ambulance service. They would also save on expense, since they would not be riding around the City all the time. The down side would be they would not justify riding through the College and the College resident areas profiling and see what they can see at night.
How about using it as a shelter for abused women and her children?
The mayor and her minions will let it rot so they can declare it unfit for occupation, similar to the plaza and it's upkeep. that way it gets condemed so they can have it torn down for "future development.
A children's library is a great idea.
I think they should just keep it as a training facility for the K-9 and other specialty units within Salisbury and WCSO. That way, they wont spend any more money and it can be used to train the dogs to get drugs off the street and take a "BITE" out of crime...LOL...had to throw that "BITE" in there.
Old Fire Station 16 needs to stay in the hands of the city fire department staffed with a medic unit at minimum and and engine for the volunteers in that area.
They better make it a soup kitchen, their gonna need it.
Best possible idea to bring life to downtown would be to make it an improved and significantly larger library with community meeting space and retail on the ground floor. Hands down the best idea yet.
Making it a library is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, but at least the thought is honest and productive. Having to walk across the street from the the main library can be very dangerous.
The building is a fire station so keep it a fire station.
Traffic??????
What Trafic?
There's NO traffic in that area.
shelter for abused men where they can release their emotions and revel in the camaraderie of others. where they can be served by scantily clad women while enjoying the beverage of their choice. where the brass pole will be put to work most effectively.
i think as of begin a member ot salisbury i think they should staff all of there ambulances there for the fact of they alwasy ride around to meet the other medics cause they dont like begin at the statio there at soo they ride to another sta.. they make the response time diff cause they never are at there station.. i would be a good place for the fire boat the hazmat the extra units that sit out side and ambulance. i mean they still have beds there i think and other stuff its a fire house and its a the oringal fire house of the city.
With all due respect, there is a lot of traffice in that area and they speed through there like it was a speed way.
Well Joe if there is no "trafic" in the area then you bring up a good point. If there is no traffic then it is obvious there is no need to expand the library then is it??
That building is where Salisbury E.M.S. headquarters should be.
This city is being too quick to sell it. Like many others, I believe it should remain a fire dept facility, with at least one engine and one ambulance. This city is growing too fast and it will need the additional stations the way things are going. It is a great location with quick access to rt 13 and rt 50.
just make it a sub sta. for the vollies (one engine and a ambo.)that way they have a place to go and get a piece of equipment out when the bridges stuck up and the traffic is backed up try as they might the same situation they argued to go accross the bridge is the same problem with this side of the bridge but they have the same terratory and their response time is worse for this side of the bridge.
Every day the old fire station sets idle it falls apart more. The building needs to be occupied immediately to keep up on the old building.
I believe that it was donated with restrictions on the deed. Does anyone know or has anyone checked this out? If so that is why nothing is being done so it will get condemn for lack of upkeep and the MARE will get their way and screw the tax payer again.
I think they should turn it into a joint city/county catering facility so the firemen can get a free crab, steak and shrimp dinner everyday while everyone else is eating hamburger. LOL:)
Mardela, ur slippin.
The main problem the city has is that they hired an incompetent appraiser to evaluate the building. Ralph Krum was obviously the low bidder, but he is also one of the least able appraisers on the Shore. The value he came up with of the high 800,000's to low 900,000's is so abjectly insane it beggars the imagination.
To see the City Council members pontificate about getting this number on top of larding up the purchase with loads of inane use restrictions was one of the funniest things I've seen in some time.
The fools that gave up that fire station for a McMansion in the Ghetto need to be fired. The elected officials that supported that criminal raping of the tax payers need to be hung by their private parts and be flogged publicly.
It already was a stip club. Didnt any of you attend the shows on the pool table with Ginger. Who has the video? Id like to see it re surface.
I got to thinking about the child library thing, which sounds good. I think the intent being give the kids a place of their own-keep them away from citizens not necessarily there to check out a book, but use the computer/stay out of the rain heat. Could the library network use the old station as an exclusive "internet cafe." The current library has a pretty sufficient "kids half." The space freed up by taking the computer terminals out could be use to increase paper offerings and working space (and making it quieter if you are actually reading/studying), thus enabling the city to save the expense of entirely new construction in the future (which nobody can afford).
