How To Own & Run A City

I'll make this short and sweet. In Salisbury, the Queen and her leading pet devised a plan to FINE Students for noise ordinances rather than arrest them. Interesting how those charges have skyrocketed while the Queen makes $500.00 a pop and no court costs or legal fees. Nice scam.

Now, let's move to Ocean City. Rather than it being an arrestable offense to have an open container, they too chose the money route and from what I'm told they had more than 2,000 charges for such an offense last summer.

While municipalities aren't supposed to make a profit, Ocean City and the City of Salisbury have found ways to draw in a small fortune with no overhead. Maybe the Daily Times should do more research on this issue and tell a balanced story for once. I can't wait till I get the official numbers from Ocean City because it should blow everyone away.

Profit, no. Revenue, yes.

I'm not sure you're correct Joe. In the city those ordinances are written on state criminal and civil citations and the fine goes to the state. The only thing the city draws money off of is the parking tickets which are written on city parking citations. Also, $500 is the max fine, most often judges impose much less.
