Ocean City Mulling Sunfest Call; Major Tweaks Likely If Annual Fall Event Held

OCEAN CITY — Sunfest 2020 remains a distinct possibility, but if the event is held this year, it will likely look and feel a lot different than it has for the last four decades.

With Sunfest, scheduled for the first weekend in October this year, still about two months away, Ocean City officials are facing a critical decision on whether to move forward with the town’s signature fall special event. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, many of the town’s special events this summer have already been canceled or significantly altered.

Just last week, the Bike Week events scheduled roughly around the same time were postponed. On Monday, Special Events Director Frank Miller outlined some of the challenges facing Sunfest this fall and presented proposed alterations to the event if it goes off as planned.

“We’ve come to realize the ability to execute this event is a pretty major unknown day to day until the gates open,” he said. “Even though you may choose that we can move forward with this event, we’re always subject to possible change.”

We all know OC is all about the Money, to hell with safety, families, and what is right.

Call it Rickie.

Due to many unknowns AND setting feelings aside - not worth the hassle, no guarantee if vendors will come or patrons will come.

Vendors, including the beverage and food folks need lead time for ordering. Order too much, its a loss - especially since nothing has really moved in 6 months. Order not enough still a loss from a revenue generator.

Punt now - have a strategic plan for Springfest and move on.

Governor Hitler and his General Meehan will not cancel this event because of a little thing called MONEY.

Bars and Restaurants closed or severely hindered in conducting business

Mask worn on boardwalk which means you can't eat Thrashers fries or Fischer popcorn while walking the boardwalk

O but you can be huddled under the tents in the parking lot

That is called poor management and looking out for your other communist buddies and the hell with the small business owners.

Ocean City needs new leadership!

Won't the people who come the air show eat somewhere. I don't see a problem with them having it and it seems like they are trying to find solutions to spread people out. I'm sure small businesses will welcome it because hopefully it will be a boast to some of them. Only time will tell.

There is a simple solution. Charge a $10 admission fee, then give everyone a "defund bad weather" tee shirt and call it a protest. They are now exempt from all these government mandated guidelines and free to do as they please. Problem solved.

Bike Week
Cruzin
the leftover of H20i

they ALL are coming...not to mention with the H20i unofficial group - many students (including college) will be going to school (hahaha) virtually at that time.

Psst Rickie - one doesn't need to be "HOME" when going to school virtually!

Offseason will be very interesting indeed. Look forward to getting with many friends at the late nite bars that won't be open (wink wink!)
