Rep. Ilhan Omar promotes call for GI Bill to apply to all Americans

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is taking heat for sharing an article calling for the G.I. Bill -- legislation that pays for American service members' higher education -- to apply to all U.S. citizens.

The story, written by Marine and Iraq veteran Will Fischer, who used the G.I. Bill's benefits to pay for his college education, argues that the benefits of paying for veterans' education have far outweighed the costs -- and covering all Americans' tuition would benefit not only those avoiding student debt but the economy as a whole.

"Imagine what it would do for our country and those who live here if we were to take the ethos behind the original G.I. Bill and apply it to everybody—canceling all student debt and making public colleges, universities, and vocational schools tuition-free," Omar tweeted, quoting the AlterNet story.

But Omar was quickly criticized for advocating such a massive expansion.

First, no. Second, hell no. How about the universal health care be provided by the VA? The idiots driving this train are lucky it's on tracks. They are one lever away from it coming off completely.

I think omar is corrupt and my vote will go to Trump. If deep state wasnt stealing billions and billions and billions from the tax payers for decades now under the mask of USAID....there would be plenty for good healthcare for all of us. If our congress people were so willing to give billions in AID {small portions that werent laundered} why wouldnt they want to help US citizens? We desperately need good people in Congress.

If she wants to join the military (put her life on hold while doing so) and serve her country (not seated at a desk in a do nothing Congress) than she should be eligible for the GI loan. Noticed I said loan.

Yes to receive the GI Bill you must make some commitments - it is not just handed-out to all military. Commitment - something this idiot (Omar) knows nothing about.
