Amber Guyger convicted of murder in wrong-apartment killing of innocent man

A Texas jury rejected former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger's self-defense claims and convicted her on Tuesday of murder in the fatal 2018 shooting of an innocent man eating ice cream in his own home after mistaking his apartment for her own.

The 12-member jury reached its verdict deliberating for less than two days. Guyger stood as Dallas County District Court Judge Tammy Kemp read decision.

"We the jury unanimously find the defendant Amber Guyger guilty of murder as charged in the indictment," Kemp read.

The family members of Botham Jean, the neighbor Guyger shot to death on Sept. 6, 2018, burst into tears as the jury granted them a measure of justice. Jean's mother, Allison Jean, held her head back and stared at the ceiling, raising her hands, thankful that justice for her son had been served.

Don't shoot the messenger people. Had an old retired police firearm instructor tell me when women first started entering law enforcement they were the worse at firearm handling. And hardest to teach. They continually wanted to hand the firearm over barral first. One girl did it 3 times in a row. He tried to get her out, but of course he couldn't because that was the new trend, giving women a chance in a male dominated occupation. He actually stopped because his patience couldn't handle it anymore.

They are railroading this poor woman cuz she is white! If this was a black cop killing a white guy, it would be buried in section D, page 14 at the bottom.

She didn’t miss.

Anyone that can't find their own apartment and intrudes another's and shoots them should not have a gun much less a badge. Stupid is forever. I hope she was a fan of Orange is the New Black she's gonna need some new skills.

You can't fix stupid

doubt it Im white and I would have put in a guilty verdict if I had been on the jury

Bull. There is probably more to this story than we know but if you walk into a stranger's house and shoot them to death it is murder. Whether you are white or black, whether you are a cop or a WalMart greeter. Good for the court system for not trying to "protect their own" as usually happens.

Didn't she notice that none of the furniture was hers?

Testimony revealed she was texting her male married partner about hooking up later that evening ("I'm so horny" right now), and wasn't paying attention to where she was. The outside light on the apartment was a different color, as well as the door mat was a different design than her place. She got startled because she wasn't paying attention when she entered that man's apartment. Anybody else would have noticed it was their place right away, before entering. The murder verdict is right and just. The jury got it right. Hopefully they will get it right on sentencing. Murdered in your own home by an off duty police officer (in uniform) while sitting on the couch eating ice cream is as bad as it gets. And her past actions and comments about black people (clearly racist) are being used in the sentencing process. Her previous comments and bravado indicated she was just waiting to use the gun on somebody during an arrest. She MUST go to jail for a long time. Parole maybe, but after a long incarceration. Life without parole would be appropriate, but I think she might get less just for being a stupid cop.

Damn shame, she was a great cop. She is so pretty, and so young. She could have boosted female recruitment in law enforcement as a spokesperson. She made a mistake, so no forgiveness? Christians my butt!

How did she get into his apt.
anyway???

There is a difference between forgiveness and accountability.

For killing someone in their own home minding their own business? Yes please just promise to never do this again. Especially since you are a police officer who carries a gun around all day, every day. It may be a mistake, but her carelessness in this situation is not one that deserves forgiveness. She deserves to be punished for being this careless with a firearm.

Did you read any part of any article written on this? I would guess you did not based off your uneducated response. She murdered someone who was doing absolutely nothing wrong and in his own home none the less. She should be locked up for a long time. He story does not even make sense. Why would this man be in your apartment sitting on your couch eating ice cream? Even if that is the case and you have a gun pointed at him, as a police officer or any other rational human being, could you not CALL THE COPS INSTEAD OF SHOOTING HIM?

Why not. I see CRIMINALS get away with murder all the time. Didn't see BITCH then??

Why does recruitment of female law officers need to be increased

A mistake? Heck, she murdered a man in his own home, sitting on his couch, eating ice cream. That's way more than any mistake. You wouldn't call it that if if was anyone you knew was shot like that in their own home. I suspect your opinion would be different if the race of the victim was different. Your comments about the murder's looks say it all. You are both sexist, and racist. Defending what a murderous cop did because of her looks.

Finally, the poleece is held accountable. Keep the ball rolling. How many poleece shootings in the past decade. And a lot of them brag about it.
