Very Disturbing...

My wife received a phone call on April 29 and May 5, 2019. The only thing they said was "hello ... this is social security please give us a call back at the following number."

My concern is that Social Security does not call just like IRS they mail you letters. I just dont want someone else to give out their information by mistake and these people drain their bank accounts, run up their credit cards, get their social security money, etc.

Thank you.

I worked at SSA and yes they do call. Your best bet is to call the local ssa office and speak to a CSR.

There have been a few SS robocalls. If they are SS, they'll at least use your name, not a generic message.

I don't care if it's Soc. Sec. or not; I will Always hang up on them or NOT answer to begin with...

There are some scams going on that ring once and hang up, wanting you to call them back. You end up on one of those 900 lines and get billed big $$ for the call and they cash in on it.

Be very cautious and look up the number yourself before you call.

I got that call, and just hung up. Also got a call saying they were a lawyer with the Attorney General in New Jersey and I was under investigation.
I just hang up. If it's real I guess someone will show up at my door.

If you or your spouse has recently signed up for Social Security, they will indeed call. If you do not pick up and answer, the will leave a call back number. That is not a message you want to ignore. It is the most informative information you will ever get from Social Security, and it allows you to make the most informed decisions about your future benefits than you can ever make by yourself. All my choices, and the consequences of my options was thoroughly explained to me in that call. There was nothing bogus or scam about the call back message on my answering machine. I received a letter after the call confirming the options I selected, and exactly when I would be receiving my first check, how much, and how and when I would receive my subsequent checks. You are mistaken that SS does not call.

Do that after you sign up for Social Security, and you will never get that first check.

Social Security is not your enemy folks! When you're ready to sign up, they will call you to confirm your choices, and after explaining the effect of your choices are, they will explain what your other options are, and see if you are sure you want to confirm your choices BEFORE they go into effect. After the choices you make go into effect, the selections are permanent. You don't get do-overs. That phone call was the most important one that I had before my SS benefits went into effect.

I have been getting the call once a day for about 3 days. I have ignored it. It is a scam! I check SS website and my SS account on there to see if they have sent any messages. They have not so I say the call is a scam.
